WESTERN CAPE TRANSPLANT SPORTS ASSOCIATION – NEWSLETTER (OCTOBER 2016) IN THIS NEWSLETTER:
Various athletes from the Western Cape
Transplant Sports Association recently
received their Western Cape Provincial
Colours in Transplant Sports.
The colour ceremony took place on Sunday,
2nd
October 2016, at the beautiful Pearl
Valley Boma just outside of Paarl. The
Colours and Certificates were presented to
the athletes by a guest speaker Mr Andre du
Toit also known as The Big Positive Guy.
This ceremony marks a special milestone in
the Association as it has long been the
objective of the Chairperson and his
committee to achieve this. By applying to
the Western Cape Provincial Sports
Confederation and encouraging athletes to
qualify for Colours, this milestone was
achieved. Colours were awarded to athletes
that participated in the World Transplant
Games in 2015 and the South African
National Transplant Games in 2016.
Afterwards the athletes and their families
enjoyed a Bring-and-Braai and social
gathering.
The awarding of Western Cape Colours came
just a week before the 2016 National
Transplant Games that took place from 6 – 9
October in Johannesburg. It was a proud
moment to see the majority of the Western
Cape Transplant Team with their Western
Cape Colours during the 2016 National
Transplant Games.
The awarding of Provincial Colours is a proud
moment in any athletes sporting career and
serves as motivation to represent not just the
Province but also the sporting code that the
athlete compete in. The Western Cape
Transplant Sports Association would thus
want to encourage all other Transplant
Sports Association regions to follow them
and attempt to achieve Provincial Colours for
their athletes. This will not only serve as
motivation for athletes to compete at the
highest level but also serve as great publicity
for our cause, namely: “through sports and
other physical activities, promote organ
donation and transplantation”.
