Please Keep in Mind

When a loved one passes on, the family may ask that donations to a charity be made in lieu of flowers. Please consider St. Clare Church or the new Parish Center when choosing an organization for your contribution. Also, please keep St. Clare Church in mind when drafting your will. God bless you for your kindness and generosity

in these difficult financial times.

They will learn that they are not alone in the problems that they face, and that they have choices that will lead to a greater peace of mind, whether the drinker continues to drink or not. presents

Captain Corelli’s Mandolin

Tuesday, November 11, at 1 PM in the Parish Center

In 1941, Italy allies with Germany and ruthlessly

conquers the much weaker country of Greece. On a remote Greek island, an Italian artillery garrison is established to maintain order. One

Italian officer, Captain Corelli, adopts an attitude of mutual co-existence with the Greeks and

engages in such activities as music festivals and the courting the daughter of a local doctor. In 1943, however, after Italy surrenders to the Allies and changes sides in the war, Captain

Corelli must defend the Greek island against a German invasion.

Drinks and snacks will be

available for purchase.

THE TEMPLE AND WORSHIP

In all of today’s readings, the temple is prominently mentioned. Ezekiel speaks of streams of living water flowing out from the temple, watering the desert, bringing life to all living things, offering fresh healing to God’s people. Paul reminds the Corinthians that their faith rests upon the firmest of foundations, Christ himself. More than that, Paul reveals that those who follow Christ are themselves temples, temples of the Holy Spirit; that is, God dwells not only with them, but in them. For the Jews of Jesus’ time, the temple had come to be identified with the presence of God and the only place where authentic worship of God took place. Jesus had a different perception. Jesus identified himself not with the temple, but as the temple. In so doing, Jesus indicated a dramatic shift in what it means to worship God, to be in God’s presence. No longer was a place to be the focus of prayer. Instead, a person, the person of Jesus Christ, becomes the center of our worship.
