Ike Schlabach (1-0, 3.92 ERA) was awarded the win for the Power and Janser Lara (0-1, 2.92 ERA) was given the loss for the Legends. The Legends plated both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning. Travis Jones reached after being hit by a pitch by Schlabach then advanced to second when Seuly Matias was walked. Sebastian Rivero lined one into right centerfield, scoring Jones and the Legends led, 1-0. Marten Gasparini brought home Matias with a groundball down the leftfield line, extending Lexington’s lead to 2-0. West Virginia tied the game in the third inning. Chris Sharpe reached on a single to left field then advanced to second when Lolo Sanchez singled to the third baseman, Travis Jones. With runners at first and second, Cal Mitchell hit a groundball to the second baseman, Matt Morales who tossed it to the shortstop, Jeison Guzman covering second to record the force out. With runners on the corners, Oneil Cruz lined a two-run single to right centerfield and the ballgame was tied at two. In the fourth inning, the Power extended their lead when Ben Bengston smacked his second home run of the season to right field, putting West Virginia in front, 3-2. Ike Schlabach (1-0, 3.92 ERA) was awarded the win for the Power and Janser Lara (0-1, 2.92 ERA) was given the loss for the Legends. The Legends plated both of their runs in the bottom of the first inning. Travis Jones reached after being hit by a pitch by Schlabach then advanced to second when Seuly Matias was walked. Leading the LegendsScott Thorman returns for his second year as manager of Lexington, after serving in the same role at Burlington from 2015-16 and as bench coach in 2014. A first-round pick by Atlanta in 2000 and Futures Game participant in 2003, Thorman played in the Majors for the Braves from 2006-07 before playing for the Royals at Triple-A Omaha in 2009-10. The first baseman and outfielder competed for Canada in the 2006 World Baseball Classic and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Scott graduated from Ashford University in 2016 with a Masters Degree in Organizational Management. He resides in Kitchener, Ontario, with his wife, Kelly, and their three children: Robbie, Tommy and Allie.

Mitch Stetter enters his third year as the pitching coach for Lexington after holding the same position with Surprise (Rookie) in 2015. The Indiana State alum was selected by Milwaukee in the 16th round in 2003 and signed by current Royals scout Mike Farrell. Stetter worked as a reliever in the Majors from 2007 to 2011 with Milwaukee and set a Brewers record in 2009, recording 15 consecutive outs on strikeouts. He is a great nephew of Gene Tormohlen, who played for the NBA’s St. Louis and Atlanta Hawks. Stetter lives in Norridge, Ill., with his wife Alison and children: CC, Dusty and Willa.

Jesus Azuaje returns for his second season as Lexington’s hitting coach, after serving in the same role at Burlington from 2015-16. He served as Latin America field coordinator for the Dodgers in 2014 and held the same role with Seattle in 2012. Azuaje coached for six years with the Mariners, including two seasons as manager of the Arizona Mariners and the 2009 season as hitting coach at Class-A Clinton. He played for Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League for 13 seasons and has coached the team for the last eight. Azuaje was an Appalachian League All-Star in 1993 with Cleveland and a Double-A All-Star in 1999 with the Brewers. He resides in Buckeye, Ariz., with wife, Glenis, and their two sons, Jesus Alberto and Samuel Alexander.

Glenn Hubbard is the bench coach at Lexington for a fifth straight season. Before serving as the Royals’ infield coordinator from 2011-14, Hubbard spent 21 seasons coaching in the Atlanta organization, including 12 seasons as the Braves’ first base coach under manager Bobby Cox. Prior to joining the Major League staff in 1999, Hubbard coached at Bradenton (1990), Macon (1991-92, 1994 and 1998) and Richmond (1993, 1995-97). A 1975 draft pick of the Braves, Hubbard played in the Majors for Atlanta from 1978-87. He concluded his playing career with Oakland, playing on an AL pennant winner in 1988 and the World Series champion team in 1989. The 1983 NL All-Star tied a Major League record for second baseman with 12 assists in a game on April 14, 1985. Hubbard, who was born at Hahn AFB in Germany, attended high school in Utah and was inducted into the Utah Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. He resides in Stone Mountain, Ga., with his wife, Lynn. They have three sons: Jeremy, Mat-thew and Daniel.

Saburo Hagihara returns for his second season at Lexington after four seasons with Burlington and three with the Surprise Royals. Prior to joining the Royals, he worked as an athletic trainer for Ohlone College and two high schools in the California Bay Area. Hagihara earned his bachelor’s of science in exercise science from State University of New York at Cortland, and completed his master’s of science in kinesiology at San Jose State University. He was bornand raised in Tokyo, Japan and now resides in Surprise, Ariz.

Jon-Michael Ervin enters his second season as strength and conditioning coach at Lexington, after serving in that same role in Burlington from 2015-16. Ervin received his Bachelors degree in Health and Exercise Science from the University of Oklahoma. During his senior year, he worked at Youth Performance Training Facility in Norman, Okla., conducting speed and agility training camps for youth. Before transferring to OU, Ervin played for the Muleridersat Southern Arkansas University. From 2008-2010 he played for Seminole State College, where he reached the Ju-nior College World Series. Ervin currently resides in Shawnee, Okla. with his fiancée, Rachel.
