Three Locations for West Michigan Dermatology: Serving patients in Holland, Grandville and Grand Rapids

West Michigan Dermatology has a long-established presence

serving the communities of Holland, Grandville and Grand

Rapids. Dr. Jack Dekkinga opened his doors in downtown

Grand Rapids and Jenison in 1982 and later expanded the

practice to Holland, eventually combining the downtown and

Jenison locations in Grandville. In addition to a full range of

dermatology services, the group was among the first to bring

Mohs surgery for skin cancer patients to the Grand Rapids area.

Currently, the staff includes five physicians, eight physician

assistants, a nurse practitioner, and six cosmetic service

providers. As the practice grew, West Michigan Dermatology

decided it was time for additional space as well as updated

offices for their thriving practice!

In 2018, West Michigan Dermatology hired First Companies to

manage the renovation of their existing Holland office. The goal

was to expand and modernize the space of approximately 6,000

square feet in an existing multi-tenant medical building located

at 3290 North Wellness Drive. The project was completed in just

four months and gave West Michigan Dermatology the fresh look

they desired as well as 10 percent more space.

The interior design features warm wood paneling with enhanced

decorative lighting, and a stone accent wall to create a

welcoming reception area. Mohs patients now have a separate

waiting area with all the comforts of home as this specialized

procedure often takes several hours to complete. The group’s

physicians benefit from larger, well-appointed and designed

surgical suites, and a floor plan that has improved efficiency and

communication among the care providers.

In 2019, West Michigan Dermatology again called on

First Companies to assist in the construction of their

largest office. This time, the project was to transform

a former Japanese steak house in Grandville into a

space that complimented the renovated Holland office,

while providing an efficient work environment for the

consolidation of the practice’s administrative staff. The size of the building also allowed the group to bring in a new pathology

lab to speed patient test results, a private waiting area for Mohs patients, and a Skin Revitalizing Center. In July of 2019, West

Michigan Dermatology purchased a third location on the East Beltline (formerly, the Dermatology Center of Grand Rapids)

allowing them to serve an even greater population within West Michigan.

The completed renovation of the 13,000 square foot building included an exterior façade refresh with new windows, doors,

canopies, landscaping and paint on the siding and metal roofing. The interior included a new clinical area to facilitate great

collaboration among the team, and a separate call center with windows that ensure confidentiality for phone conversations

while keeping the space open and light for the staff. The office offers plenty of parking and easy access for patients. All work

was completed ahead of schedule and under budget.

The Grandville location was formerly occupied by Kobe Steakhouse.

The layout of the Holland location was designed with staff efficiency in mind. Each surgical suite has two doors - one for staff use accessible from the central work hub, the other for patient use, accessible by way of the main hall.
