Where has thee year gone? The holidayseason is upon us once again, and againI’m ill prepared. No Matter my thoughtprocess back in May, it seems thepreceding months before Christmasalways seem to elude me. Though westill have a month or so to go, I will bein the overcrowded malls on December24th. I hate to admit it but some mayfind my behavior to be a somewhatprocrastinating and they would be right.I know the clock is ticking, but yet Iwait until the final minutes. Maybeit’s the thrill of running with the clockthat is my true motivator or maybe Iperform better under pressure. WriterDon Marquis once wrote“Procrastination is the art of keepingup with yesterday”. Webster’sdictionary defines procrastination as;putting off or delaying or deferring anaction to a later time. We allprocrastinate to a certain degree, but asmall percentage of us would beconsidered chronic or habitual. Now,I’m aware that being a procrastinatorcould be considered a very bad thingby most folks. If I sat down and watchedTV, avoided and put off my duties andresponsibilities I would agree this tobe a character flaw. Let’s think outsidethe box for a moment and ponder thisnotion. If one delays one action to do amore important action, is that evenprocrastination at all? Say I put offChristmas shopping to the very lastminute because my family, work lifeand lodge are taking most of my time.I say to you that is the very noble act ofdelay management. No one can frownupon working late, spending neededtime with your family or volunteeringto a worthy cause to be lazy or aprocrastinator. We all have a lot ofthings to do. Sometimes more thanwe can possible do. It should beconsidered intelligent how we manageour delays. My brothers and sisterslive by this rule: If you’re going toprocrastinate, procrastinate well! MerryChristmas to all and remember this isthe season of giving. Open your heartand give not only to family and friends, but the less fortunate. The greatest giftyou will receive is the smile you willsee when you give to someone youdon’t know.

“Do not neglect to do good and toshare what you have, for such sacrificesare pleasing to God”. Hebrews13:16

Dear Members,

On behalf of my wife Terry and Iwe would like to wish you all aHappy and Safe Holiday Season.

This past year has been morechallenging than last year but wecontinue to forge ahead in the rightdirection. You have probably noticedthat there has been a slight increase inbar prices .25 cents across the board.Club Management is updating theLodge menus and they should beimplemented late November or 1st

week in December. Some slow sellingitems will be removed and some itemsreplaced with what we hope willappeal more to our members. Therewill also be some slight priceadjustments to the menu; we studiedthis very carefully before the decisionwas made. The cost of goods andutilities continues to rise andupstream in July of 2014 we arelooking at a mandatory $1.00 an hourincrease in minimum wage. Theincreases of our Hall rentals andleases have made it possible to keepthese price increases modest. Iappreciate your understanding withthese difficult but necessarydecisions. Members we have many activitiesin store for you this month.December 1st we have the MDAChildren’s Christmas Party hosted byJohn Hughes, if you would like todonate your time or make a monetarydonation or gifts please contact John. We also have our 20th AnnualChristmas Tree Lane on December15th and in 20 years I haven’t won atree yet hum! To kick out the old and kick in thenew we have our “The Lights onBroadway” New Year’s EveCelebration. Come join us at one orall of these events. Keep the Spirit ofChristmas Alive, God Bless

Dear Members,I would like to thank all our members that have opened their hearts anddevotion to our nation’s Veteran’s and active duty military. This year wetogether have raised monies and given from our homes and hearts to showthem that we love them and are thankful as Elks and Americans. You havelived up to our orders pledge of, “So long as there are veterans, theBenevolent and Protective Order of Elks will never forget them.” I thankyou. As we enter the holidays that are hardest for all service members thatare away from their families, let us keep them and their families in ourthoughts and prayers. One way we could reach out to those overseas andin hospitals recovering is through the “Holiday Mail for Heroes” ,sponsored by the red cross. You merely get a simple card, address it“Dear Service Member and sign it, you can write a message as well. NoLetters, just cards The mail however many you would like to: HolidayMail for Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capital Heights, MD, 20791-5456. Iknow it is short notice but you must have these to the address by December6. I apologize for the short notice. Last month was Veterans RemembranceMonth and we honored our Lodge’s vets with an appreciation dinner. Itwas a warm gathering of our veterans, family and friends. December 2013 GER Message: Holidays offer chance for your Lodge to shineMessage from the Grand Exalted Ruler MILLARD C. PICKERING

The holiday season is a wonderful time for family, friends and, naturally, Elks. Every community “decks the Halls” with symbolsof the season and commemorations of all kinds. Many sponsor public events such as parades, Christmas tree lightings, socials, dinners, food drives and other gatherings to celebrate the holidays, the upcoming New Year and help those in need.

What better time to put your Lodge and your membership on display?

Whether it be a holiday open house, sponsorship of a float or car in the parade, participation in food basket programs orsupporting charitable projects on the home front, your Lodge has the opportunity to make a difference and gain some positiveattention like no other time of the year.

If your Lodge is not in a position to sponsor an event, consider participation as a group in a public activity. Just a few Elkslending a hand in a community program raises public awareness of your Lodge and reminds people of the good works youdo all year round.

That kind of attention also attracts people of like mind who may find themselves thinking about membership. Nothing is moreappealing than actually seeing people enjoying each other’s company while doing good works for a worthy cause.

While every Lodge uses the checkbook for community support, nothing has greater potential influence and impact than havingothers see your membership actively engaged in public projects, functions and events.

It is a chance to let everyone in your hometown see you and your Lodge shine! From the Pickering household to all of our Brother and Sister Elks, we wish you Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all theblessings of the Holiday Season.

See you down the road.

Hello Fellow Elks

Wow, December already and what a great time of the year. Many get together with family and friends and our brothers andsisters at Elk dinners and parties. We were able to have the floor stripped, cleaned, and waxedin the main hall for the up coming Holidays. David Granillo Air Conditioning and Heating will be doingour preventative maintenance on our units on the roof. Workingon Refrigeration maintenance contract. We have also scheduled a Company to clean the duct andfan over the kitchen stoves and grills. They will be doing itsometime after Thanks giving. The kitchen projects are still in the planning stages, howeverwe still need that steel wire shelving at North end of kitchen forstorage of glassware, flatware and some pots and pans also. Many thanks to all those who have stepped in to help withprojects that needed to be done, moving chairs and tables forfloor cleaning, thank you Ed and Matt. Thanks again to ourfellow Elks who are helping to make our Bingo a success.

Repairs and maintenance are always ongoing, if you havesome time and would like to help sometime please contact anytrustee.
