Please pop your pre-loved book in the tubs at the office before Friday 25 August. Decorate a Doorway Visit our classrooms to see doorways displaying our favourite books and love of literature. Numeracy Week Next week, beginning Monday 28 August, it’s Numeracy Week and we will be highlighting the importance of Maths through a host of activities in, and out of the classroom. 1:1 MacBook Program This week we have been congratulating the students in Year 4, 5 & 6 on the overall safe use of their 1:1 devices, especially when online. Each year level has developed a ‘Safe Websites’ list, which includes sites students can visit during Wet Weather, Free time or during Out Of School Hours. This is a way to ensure students are being safe when not under direct teacher instruction. To build on this, we have been working with teachers to update how students use YouTube. A short presentation and discussion was held with all Year 4, 5, & 6 students to share the new guidelines. Each class now has a copy of the YouTube Safe User Guide, also found at the bottom of this newsletter.

High Reliability Schools Is Wembley Primary School a High Reliability School? To find out, we need your feedback………. In Robert Marzano’s Handbook for High Reliability Schools: The Next Septs in School Reform he provides a compelling framework for what schools must do in order to move to the next level of effectiveness in ensuring that all students are learning at high levels. Over the last four years, staff have been doing an amazing job in implementing the three big ideas of a Professional Learning Community with the intent of reaching high reliability in the following areas:

· Level 1 - Safe and Collaborative Culture · Level 2 - Effective Teaching in Every Classroom · Level 3 - Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum and · Level 4 - Standard Referenced Reporting

Now we are seeking feedback from students, parents and teachers to find out how effective we have been in achieving high reliability in the first three areas. The first survey we will be seeking feedback on, Level 1. A Safe and Collaborative Culture, addresses the factors considered fundamental to the wellbeing of the school. Namely, do staff, students, parents and the school community feel that the school is safe and maximises collaboration for the enhancement of student learning? This survey will be open from Monday 14 August to Friday 25 August and made accessible via a survey monkey link that will be sent out via Sentral. We invite all families to complete the survey and appreciate the time you take to share your feedback. Reminder about bell times Parents are reminded of the school bell times for arrival in the morning and home time at the end of the school day. Students are expected to be at school and in their classrooms at 8.55am each morning. The first bell rings at this time to allow students to organize their belongings (lunch orders, water bottles, reading satchels, homework etc) at the beginning of the day. Any students who arrive before 8.30am are to proceed to the school office. Students should not be dropped off and left in the playground without parental supervision before this time. The playground is supervised from 8.50am for student arrival. The Before Care program dismisses students at this time. There has been an increase in the number of students arriving well before 8.30am each morning. Similarly the home time bell rings at 3.15pm for afternoon dismissal. At this time all students who walk home or meet their parents along the way need to leave the school grounds. Following the final bell, which rings at 3.30pm, students who have not been collected by their parents or carers are asked to come to the school office, where a staff member will telephone parents. On the occasion of a parent being potentially late for pickup time a phone call should be made to the office explaining this and the student will be called to the office area to await collection. Many students are staying on and playing in the playgrounds or on the soccer pitch after school. The playground is supervised until the final bell at 3.30pm and all students should have left the school grounds by this time. Teachers have meeting and preparation commitments after school. Students who are still in the playground after this time may cause problems for the Out of School Hours Care Program, which requires access to all available outside playing areas each afternoon. It is recommended that students are not to go to the library over the road from school without parental supervision. It is not the responsibility of the librarians to supervise and manage students. Your support with this will ensure the safety and well being of all students.

The Great Book Swap! Wembley Primary School is holding a book swap to raise funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. (Not to be confused with the Bookfair). Did you know that only 25% of Indigenous students in very remote areas are at the minimum reading standard, compared to 90% of non-Indigenous students? We are set to change the stats, but we need your help!

Have you read a good book? Want to read another good book? Please bring in a loved book to swap and a gold coin (or more) and take home another book to enjoy reading. You can donate books right next to the front office in the tubs provided or take them straight to Miss. Crozier in 4A. Donations may also be me made online at

https://indigenousliteracyfoundation.secure.force.com/CICD__Fundraise?id=701A0000001Inwn The Great Book Swap will be held in week 6 during Literacy Week. All proceeds will be going towards the Indigenous Literacy Foundation who hopes to raise more than $200,000 to gift 20,000 new books to remote Indigenous communities. Thank you for all your support!
