    Dear Neighbor:

As part of a comprehensive review of Wellesley College-owned properties that are not beingused for academic or residential purposes. Wellesley College is currently considering the futureof a number of parcels, including one we own in your neighborhood. We would like to invite youto meet with us on Tuesday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wellesley College Club to hear about anddiscuss our current thinking about this land.

Commonly referred to as the North 40 and located at the intersection of Route 135 and WestonRoad, this property has long proven unfeasible for academic or related uses. Though we haveexplored options for the parcel in the past. we have been restricted by the deed that donated theland to the College in 1873. However. Wellesley College has recently filed a petition with theMassachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) seeking to remove the restrictions set forth in thatdeed in order to allow for outside development on the property.

By selling this property or committing to a long-term ground lease, Wellesley College will gainadditional financial resources to support our plan for campus renewal. which includes renovationand maintenance efforts as well as modest additions on a few existing buildings. The productivere-use of the North 40. as well as other fringe properties. will enable us to focus our assets in theareas we can best utilize them.Should the SJC grant our request, Wellesley College is committed to conducting a process that isrespectful of our surrounding community and acknowledges any potential concerns the town andits residents may have. To that end, Wellesley College expects to identiff responsibledevelopment partners who are sensitive to community needs and concerns.

While we have no plans fbr development at this time. we have already held initial discussionswith Wellesley town otficials around this matter. which have been positively received. andwould like to extend that opportunity to our neighbors as well.

    Thank you for your

    Sincerely.
