Welding occupations are primarily concerned with joining, surfacing, fabricating or repairing structures or parts made of metal or other weld- able materials. The skills and knowledge needed to determine the appropriate welding technique required for a specific project and to successfully perform that technique are gained through course work and practical experiences. The OCTC Welding program is an American Welding Society accredited educational facility which offers National welding certification credentials as well as the following: AAS Degree - General Occupational Technical Studies. Diploma - Combination Welder. Certificates - Arc Welder, AWS Level 1 National skill standard, and Production Line Welder. Job Outlook Salary estimates for Welders-$34,781; According to KCTCS Active CIPs (extracted from DSS on 3/1/2012); National Crosswalk Service Center (SOCXCIP) and National Center for Education Statistics 2010-2010 SOC-CIP Crosswalk; Office of Employment and Training, Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (Kentucky Occupational Outlook to 2018 and the Kentucky Occupational Wages 2011).
