BOOK SIGNINGS EXHIBIT HALLOur Teen Lit Con Authors have tight schedules and are not available to sign indefinitely. Please plan ahead by checking the signing schedules of your favorite authors and show up early. The book signing lines will be closed on schedule to keep the day moving on time. TLC WRITERS’ STUDIO: BRYAN BLISS ‒ FICTION WRITING WORKSHOPPublishers Weekly’s starred review referred to We’ll Fly Away, author Bryan Bliss’ most recent book as “a compelling and raw story.” In this workshop for fiction writers Bryan focuses on the art of story development and the elements of good storytelling.

WRITING POEMS FOR STRANGERSFind out how poetry can become a tool to connect across differences in this hands-on workshop with poet Molly Van Avery. Attendees will have the opportunity to write a poem for a stranger, receive a poem from a stranger, and/or to create a poem for someone you know.

YA LIT TRENDS: SOCIAL JUSTICE & ACTIVISMIssues important to teens, like poverty, sexism, racism, and politics are popular topics in YA literature right now. Join Teen Librarian Toolbox’s Amanda MacGregor to discover the best books on injustice, empowerment and activism in YA lit. Through a diversity of characters, identities, and authors these titles can inspire conversations that affect change.

HEADLINER: BECKY ALBERTALLI Author of: Leah on the Offbeat, Love, Simon, What If It’s Us. Becky has been writing stories since preschool. She was greatly influenced by the classics she read as a youth like, the Baby-Sitters Club, Sweet Valley High and Harry Potter. Her latest book, What If It’s Us, written in collaboration with best friend Adam Silvera is described as smart, funny and heartfelt.

HEADLINER: JARRETT KROSOCZKA Author of: Hey, Kiddo; Star Wars Jedi Academy series; Lunch Lady series. Well known to younger readers for earlier work, Jarrett has published over thirty books. Hey, Kiddo, a graphic memoir, is his first book for teens. In it he shares his story about being raised by his grandparents and his mother’s drug addiction. Jarrett lives in MA with his wife, kids and two pugs.

HEADLINER: LAMAR GILESAuthor/Editor of: Spin, Fresh Ink, Black Enough, Overturned. A well published author of deadly thrillers and short fiction for teens, Lamar Giles is also a founding member of the We Need Diverse Books movement. Lamar’s latest thriller, Spin, isn’t his first encounter with the music industry ‒ as a teenager he almost broke Beyonce’s toes and he even recorded on a rap album. A mega fan of ‘80s music and movies, Lamar is also a mega fan of MN’s own rock star, Prince.

TLC WRITERS’ STUDIO: SCENE IS BELIEVINGAuthor of fiction (The Game of Love and Death ) and nonfiction (Unpresidented ) author Martha Brockenbrough believes scenes are the building blocks of stories and novels. A great way to learn how to write a scene is to study how they do it in movies and on TV. In this workshop, we’ll watch a couple of scenes and try our hands at writing them.

LERNER PUBLISHING FOCUS GROUP: SHARE YOUR READER EXPERIENCE WITH A PREMIER PUBLISHERStop by early at the Lerner Publishing booth in the Exhibit Hall if you’re interested in taking part in a discussion about books. One of the few MN publishers with a YA imprint, Carolrhoda Lab, Lerner wants to know why you read what you read. Extremely limited seating, if you get in, the meeting is in A215.
