While youre unpacking, whynot send them offtofind out about the University and the servicesit offers? There will be a repeated short presentation at the timeslisted, plus an information fair where they can talk to staffand family

As well as support staffthere will also be representation fromthe Students Union, Sports Centre, The Workshop, FamilyProgramme and Lancaster Tourism.

Guide to enrolmentAll new undergraduate students take three subjects (or theirequivalent) during theirfirst year - known as Part I, and youmust attend to enrol for your Part I courses (this includes part-time students). There are alternative arrangements for Direct toPart II students.

Study Abroad, Exchange and Erasmus students: will enrol onTuesday 30 September. Please see your separate orientation guide

    for further details.

What to doEach department has a table in a clearly marked lecture theatre, andyou should make your way to that of your major department to collectyour enrolment form. One of the departmental academic adviserswill discuss with you your proposed choice of Part I subjects and ifapproved, enter them on your enrolment form. If you were admittedto a combined major degree scheme you should then visit the tableof the other department concerned.Following that, you can then repeat the process with the other twodepartments whose courses you wish to study at Part I. If you aredoing a combined major scheme, obviously you will only visit onefurther table after your two major departments. For combinedmajors in three subjects, visit the three tables for the departmentsconcerned.

Make sure that you are enrolled for three Part I subjects and hand inyour enrolment form for checking by Student Registry staff. If you are advised to change the selection of subjects originallyapproved by your major department, you must go back to thatdepartment and get their approval for the change of Part I subject, which must then be entered on the enrolment form. Its not asdaunting as all this may sound: stafffrom the Student Registry will beon hand to help if you get stuck.

Seminarsand practicals are arranged by your department to fit around yourlectures.

    Change of enrolments

You may apply up to Friday 24 October 2014 to change your Part Isubjects: you will need the approval of both your proposed majordepartment and the department whose course you now wish to take. You MUST NOT change any Part I subjects without approval and allchanges must be notified on a Change of Enrolment form, availablefrom the Base in University House or, from departmental offi ces.If you are at all uncertain about your choice of Part I subjects, youcould ask to attend lectures in the subject to which you want totransfer.
