Welcome to YUELI

Dear Colleagues at Fudan University:

Hello, and greetings from Toronto! We are delighted to have the opportunity to invite your students to York University and the York University English Language Institute (YUELI).

YUELI and York University provide an environment for academic excellence, a very dynamic and diverse community and a friendly and welcoming environment. Toronto is a multi-cultural, safe and fun city.

We are looking forward to offering you a strong and challenging Summer Language Program (SLP)/Summer Skills for Everyday English program (SEE). Our SLP/Summer SEE is designed for students who want to improve their overall command of English. The course focuses on speaking, pronunciation, grammar and listening skills and applies these to everyday situations. The goal of the program is to build students’ range of English usage, build confidence in speaking English and develop fluency Our extra-curricular program goals include: learning more about life in Canada, experiencing the excitement of Toronto and the natural beauty of Canada, and making many new friends and memorable experiences.

YUELI – Tuition

A four week, 20 hour per week, Summer Language Program/Summer Skills for Everyday English Program taught by YUELI’s highly qualified instructors including activities, residence and insurance:

YUELI – Activities

Trips and activities included:

•Orientation•Games club (1 hour weekly for 3 weeks)

•Coffee talks club (1 hour weekly for 4 weeks)

•Conversation partnering sessions (3 students with one Community leader for 30 minutes x 4 weeks)

•CN Tower and downtown Toronto trip•Summer Welcome Dinner•Toronto Island Day trip•Niagara Falls day trip•Theatre club (1 hour weekly for 2 weeks) •Toronto Blue Jays baseball game•Canada’s Wonderland day trip•Boat Cruise on Lake Ontario

NB:All activities include the cost a YUELI Community Leader(s), transportation (by TTC or school bus) and any entrance fees unless otherwise noted.

YUELI – Activities, clubs and conversation partnering descriptions

TripsTrips, led by a York University Student Community Leader, allow students to experience the beauty and culture of Canada.

ClubsClubs, led by a York University Student Community Leader, are held weekly (for 5 weeks of the session) and engage students in a fun and challenging activity. Past club topics include: games club, coffee talks club and theatre/improve club.

Conversation PartneringStudents meet in small groups; either 2 or 3 students, with a York University Student Community Leader to practice general speaking, listening and conversation skills. This is an opportunity for students to talk in English with their peers, learn more about student life in Canada and improve their vocabulary. Conversation Partnering sessions are exclusive for your group.

York University Student Community Leaders: All student leaders work part time at YUELI. They are trained, reliable and friendly and will ensure your students have a fun and safe experience.

YUELI – Airport pick up and return

•Airport welcome service to York University (all participants on same flight) CAD:$40 per person

•Airport return service from York University (all participants on the same flight) CAD$40 per person

•Airport welcome service to York University or return to airport service (individual students on separate flights) CAD$60 per person

YUELI – York University residence and insurance

•Accommodation in York University Residence, single rooms with shared bathrooms and common areas for 28 nights (arrival date is July 24th and departure date is August 21st at 11am); meal plan is not included but students can purchase flexible meal cards on campus; cooking in the residence is not permitted.

•Insurance provided by Student Guard (www.guardme.ca) from July 24 to August 21, 2010

YUELI - Chaperone

YUELI welcomes chaperones from to accompany their students to Canada.

Services available to one Fudan Chaperone if registering a group of 15 or more students in the Summer Language Program:•Residence accommodation for the duration of the program•Airport pick up and return service

YUELI – Payment and Cancellation

Total fees are due one month in advance of the program start date.

Students canceling from 30 days before the start of the program onwards will incur the following charges to be applied to the total per person cost:

•Cancellation received after 30 days before the start date: 25% withheld•Cancellation received after 15 days before the start date: 50% withheld•Cancellation received after start date: 100% withheld
