General information• School begins at 9am and ends at 3.15pm for

the children in KS1, though the whistle goes at 8.50 and we bring all the children in.

• Lunchtime is from 12 o’clock until 12.55. School dinners are free for all children in Rec-Y2. However, please apply for FSM if you are eligible as school receives a premium.

• All uniform and kit should be clearly named. Hair should be tied back if it is shoulder length or longer.

• PE kit should be in school at all times.• Jewellery should not be worn.

Our Curriculum

• Our topics this year are:• Authors – Roald Dahl• In the style of…. – party planners?• Kingdoms – dinosaurs?

Homework• Big Talk for Big Write homework is sent home as a paper copy every

Thursday. You will also find it on the website on our class page. The topic is to be discussed ready for the following Monday.

• Reading – children should read for at least ten minutes every day – this does not always have to be the reading scheme book. Please write a comment in the Communication Book each time your child has read and let us know when the book needs to be changed.

• Literacy and Maths – we will be sending home a task each Thursday. This may be in the form of Talk Homework or a more formal written task. These should take no more than 10 minutes each. Homework should be completed and returned, in the folder, by the following Tuesday.

• Spelling – spellings are sent home on a Friday to learn for a test the following Friday.

• We would encourage you to help your child with their work – they may need some help reading the tasks.

• There is a homework club on Monday 3.20-3.50pm for children who need help with their homework. Please let the teachers know if your child will be attending these sessions.

• Please let us know if there are any problems.

Communication diariesPlease write in the diary when you have heard your child read their book.Any other comments are welcome.Diaries are looked at every day and comments are acted on.

This year, we would like to encourage everyone to fill in the section about the week. We ask that you sign the diary every week.

How can you help you help your child at home?

• We will be sending home individual targets for your child to work on eg.writing all numbers the correct way round. Please encourage your child with these targets at home. Once the target is consistently achieved, we will change it for the next one. Eg.writing all numbers the correct way round.

• Reading every day with or to your child is really valuable – it does not always have to be the reading scheme book.
