Welcome to the RAINBOW theme activities.

Inside each of the balloons you will find an activity for

you to complete. Remember you only have to complete 6 activities to complete this theme.

What you do is up to you!

DID YOU KNOW A rainbow forms when raindrops separate white sunlight into a spectrum. As sunlight passes through a drop of water, it is first bent and then reflected back surface of the drop toward the viewer’s eye. The amount of bending differs for light of different colours. Red bends the least and violet the most. The colours can be seen, however, only when the angle of reflection

between the sun, the drop of water and the viewer’s line of vision is between 40

and 42 .Rainbows are usual seen at the end of a shower of rain or in the spray of

waterfalls

Their are rainbow birds, fish, etc

because of the multi-coloured nature of their appearance.

is the name of the youngest members of UK Guiding.

South Africa is known as the Rainbow Nation

due to the number of races who live there and their multi-

coloured flag.

"The Rainbow Connection" (sung by Kermit) Why are there so many songs about rainbows And what's on the other side? Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, And rainbows have nothing to hide. So we've been told and some choose to believe it I know they're wrong, wait and see. Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, The lovers, the dreamers and me. Who said that every wish would be heard and answered When wished on the morning star? Somebody thought of that, and someone believed it, And look what it's done so far. What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing And what do we think we might see? Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, The lovers, the dreamers, and me. All of us under its spell, We know that it's probably magic... ... Have you been half asleep? And have you heard voices? I've heard them calling my name. ... Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors? The voice might be one and the same I've heard it too many times to ignore it It's something that I'm s'posed to be... Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, The lovers, the dreamers, and me

Somewhere over the rainbow, way up high,

There's a land that I heard of

Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow

Skies are blue.

And the dreams that you dare to dream

Really do come true.

Someday I'll wish upon a star

And wake up where the clouds are far behind me.

Where troubles melt like lemon drops,

Away above the chimney tops.

That's where you'll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow,

Bluebirds fly.

Birds fly over the rainbow,

Why then - oh, why can't I?

If happy little bluebirds fly

Beyond the rainbow,

Why, oh, why can't I?

These are 2 well known songs about rainbows. Sing any song about a rainbow.

There are all sorts of magical stories about rainbows. The most famous is about Noah, the Ark and rainbow. You can read about it in the bible in Genesis 6:9 - 9:28

Here is another story about the rainbow. Compare the two stories.

The Story Of The Rainbow LEADER: Once upon a time, all the colours in the world started to quarrel; each claimed it was the best, the most important, the most useful, the favourite. GREEN SAID: "Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, trees, leaves - without me all the animals would die. Look out over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority." BLUE INTERRUPTED: "You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is water that is the basis of life and this is drawn up by the clouds from the blue sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace you would all be nothing but busybodies." YELLOW CHUCKLED:

“You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety and warmth into the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower the whole world starts to smile. Without me there would be no fun.”

ORANGE STARTED NEXT TO BLOW ITS' TRUMPET: "I am the colour of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am precious for I serve the inner needs of human life. I carry all the most important vitamins. Think of carrots and pumpkins, oranges, mangoes and pawpaws. I don't hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one give another thought to any of you." RED COULD STAND IT NO LONGER IT SHOUTED OUT: "I'm the ruler of you all, blood, life's blood. I am the colour of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire in the blood. Without me the earth would be as empty as the moon. I am the colour of passion and of love; the red rose, poinsettia and poppy."

PURPLE ROSE UP TO ITS' FULL HEIGHT AND SPOKE WITH GREAT POMP:

"I am the colour of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs and bishops have always chosen me for I am a sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me - they listen and obey." INDIGO SPOKE MUCH MORE QUIETLY THAN ALL THE OTHERS, BUT JUST AS DETERMINEDLY: "Think of me. I am the colour of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me, you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep waters. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace."

LEADER:

And so the colours went on boasting, each convinced that it was the best. Their quarrelling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of brilliant white lightning, thunder rolled and boomed. Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colours all crouched down in fear, drawing close to one another for comfort.

THEN THE RAIN SPOKE: "You foolish colours, fighting among yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Do you not know that God made you all? Each for a special purpose, unique and different. God loves you. God wants you. Join hands with one another and come with me." "God will stretch you across the sky in a great bow of colour, as a reminder that he loves you, that you can live together in peace, - a promise that he is with you, - a sign of hope for tomorrow." And so whenever God has used a good rain to wash the world, he puts the rainbow in the sky, and when we see it, let us remember to appreciate one another. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

THE RAINBOW GRACE

When I see a rainbow, I know that God is near me.

When I see a rainbow, I know that God is near.

Thank you Lord

For your blessings.

When I see a rainbow I know that God is near.

Tune: Early one morning

If things ever begin to look

a little cloudy ...

they'll get better soon.

Just remember that it's true:

it takes rain to make rainbows,

lemon to make lemonade,

and sometimes it takes difficulties

to make us stronger and better people.

The sun will shine again soon ... you'll see.

- Colin Mc Carty

I can paint a rainbow

Right across the sky

Red for every kindness

That my eyes can spy,

Orange for the laughter

Brightening each day,

Gold for friendships sunshine

Showered on my way

Caring for my country

Is my rainbow’s green,

Blue is thinking God-thoughts

Keeping life serene

Deep peace like night’s shadows

Dark as indigo,

Violet is the care and love

To everyone I show

So my rainbow arches

High above the earth,

Glowing with the values

I hold of highest worth.
