Students turn in “whoopsie” passes to use the

restroom during class, excuse a tardy, go to lockers for forgotten materials, etc.

Students receive six “whoopsie” passes the first nineweeks and four each of the remaining nineweeks. Once you turn in all your passes for the nineweeks, you are out of luck!

Passes may not be traded, “rolled over”, or otherwise misused or relied upon. Teachers maintain discretion when accepting and issuing “whoopsie” passes.

“Whoopsie!”

Page 16: Welcome to the Lions Team!

You can pack or buy lunch each day.

Keep track of your lunch $ with www.mySchoolBucks.com and make sure you ALWAYS have your ID! IDS: It costs $5 for a new ID card – keep it in your locker,

consider getting a magnet for it! IDs are mainly used to buy lunch and check out books/resources from the library.

Handbook – Class Meetings on Friday

Student Rights and Responsibilities: You have the right to feel safe, and others do too! Any place on our campus,

including the school bus!

DISCIPLINE: Places: Dean of Students, the Office/principals, ALC or time-out,

homeroom restriction, detention, Saturday School, Supervised Study, in-school suspension (students in detention may not participate in after-school activities…)

You don’t want to deal with any of this! By now, you know what behavior is acceptable in school. Please save us all the trouble and think before you act. All rules are here for your safety!

School Expectations:

Page 26: Welcome to the Lions Team!

Our school culture especially does not tolerate…

Academic Dishonesty – PLAGIARISM Late to Class/School and Excessive Absences

School starts at exactly 7:30. Bells signify you should be SEATED and ready to start class. Three tardies results in detention.

Class Disruptions/Detention FIGHTING (this includes horseplay) Public Displays of Affection Weapons or “look a likes” DRUGS and ALCOHOL

School Expectations:

Page 27: Welcome to the Lions Team!

Bullying/Harassment: We are a bully free

school. We will talk a lot about respect this year. Know that bullying and harassment are crimes, and everyone has the right to be treated with kindness.

Connections Time Kindness as a Way of Life

School Culture:

Page 28: Welcome to the Lions Team!

Ahhh…. The two biggest problems every year…

Dress Code:First impressions are important. Inappropriate dress makes people think you are just another teenager. You can be super stylish without violating our dress code.

Cell Phones:Hey, I am attached to mine too, but I don’t use it during school and neither can you. Keep your cell turned off in your LOCKER. “My mom is texting me” is not an excuse and a little embarrassing…

There are NO EXCEPTIONS to either policy! You will change, your phone will be taken, and you will face consequences.

School Culture:

Page 29: Welcome to the Lions Team!

We have won a lot of awards for teaching middle school students. Become part of

our team!

So… What does it mean to be a member of SVMS Middle

School?

Page 30: Welcome to the Lions Team!

Focus:

How is 7th grade different, and how can I

overcome new challenges?

7th Period

Page 31: Welcome to the Lions Team!

“It’s different from last year – you’ll need to work harder!” “Be ready for change. This is completely different from 6th grade.”

“Respect that you have more freedom.”

“Learn good habits early like studying and using your planner.”

“Get to know people – friends will help you throughout the year.”

“The teachers really do care about you and your work. They each have different styles, so pay attention and go with it.”

Key to Success: Step Up, and don’t be afraid to ASK FOR HELP!

How is 7th grade different?

Page 32: Welcome to the Lions Team!

ALL ADULTS IN YOUR LIFE! Especially your

teachers, Ms. Limmer, and your parents.

Homeroom: You MUST have a pass to leave homeroom. As soon as you get off the bus, you have access to the

library, computer lab, and your teachers (with a pass from the day before), long before the homeroom bell rings.

M, W, Th – Tutoring Time during homeroom Tuesday – Connections Friday – DEAR – BRING A BOOK!

Who can I ask? When?

students, teachers, and high school tutors.

Lions Team teachers send down an agenda, extra practice, bonus, and more to help you make the most of your time.

Homework Hub

Page 34: Welcome to the Lions Team!

But why? …

Homework helps you practice what was taught, study for tests, prepare for upcoming lessons, develop self-discipline and organization, and provides additional ways to earn points.

How can I get it done? … Set aside a specific time and place (free from noise and distractions) to do homework every night. If you have no homework, use the time to read or review your notes.

I heard I can do all my homework in homeroom… #1 You heard wrong! Homeroom is only 20 minutes, and you will have Mondays, Wednesday, and Thursdays max free.#2 People who do homework in homeroom are not putting forth the effort required to get maximum points or learn from their homework, you need more time and a quiet space at home.

Homework Philosophy“Do homework at home.”

Page 35: Welcome to the Lions Team!

1. All students will complete ALL assignments neatly and legibly.

2. STUDENTS will be responsible for making up homework or other class work missed due to absence. USE OUR WEBSITES. If you are in school, it is still due! Use homeroom to turn in work early if you will miss for Purpose, band, early dismissals, etc. Long term due dates do not change due to absences.

3. Homework must be turned in ON TIME for full credit.

The #1 reason students fail 7th grade is failure to complete homework – this includes STUDYING! Our society is designed so that your JOB is to be a student until at least 18. Extracurriculars are very important and fun, but

you have to make sure to do your JOB first. Make sure you make your education a priority every day.

and overcome challenges this year?

BE ORGANIZED! Treat your planner kindly -

write neat and detailed notes inside - use it every day!

“Write your homework and when to study for tests.”

“Check your planner all the time!”

“Be independent and organized.”

Student grades can be viewed on the SV Portal. The link

for the SV Portal (https://portal.svsd.net/) can be found at the top of any SV page.

Report cards and progress reports are no longer mailed home!

It is YOUR job to check gradebook to make sure assignments are recorded correctly and you are aware of your progress in each class!

Check weekly to make sure you are on top of things. But remember, grade portal is NOT a substitute for your planner. If it’s already posted on grade portal, it is probably already way late!

You do not report back to homeroom at dismissal, you just go straight to lockers and busses. Remember, the TEACHER dismisses you, not the announcements.
