Welcome to First Baptist Church of Texico Sermon Title for this morning’s message:
“Sanctification Part 1” Selected Scriptures
Sermons Via Live-Stream For the next two weeks out of an abundance of caution, we are going to have Sunday morning services available via Facebook live-stream only and are asking those who normally come to FBC Texico to stay home. If you do
not have Facebook for live stream, go this this link, facebook.com/firstbaptistchurchtexico. It will take you directly to the Church Facebook page. The live feed will be there at roughly 10:15am on Sunday morning. The sermon will also be posted on the website as soon as
possible. We plan to reevaluate in two weeks. Please do not hesitate to contact your pastor, your deacon or the church office if you need spiritual help, physical help,
counseling, etc.
First Family Calendar of Events
All events for the next two weeks have
been canceled.
16th century Christian pastor, theologian, and
church reformer (husband and father, as well)
Martin Luther, on facing the Black Death:
“I shall ask God mercifully to protect us. Then I shall
fumigate, help purify the air, administer medicine
and take it. I shall avoid places and persons where
my presence is not needed in order not to become
contaminated and thus perchance inflict and pollute
others and so cause their death as a result of my neg-
ligence. If God should wish to take me, he will surely
find me and I have done what he has expected of me
and so I am not responsible for either my own death
or the death of others. If my neighbor needs me
however I shall not avoid place or person but will go
freely as stated above. See this is such a God-fearing
faith because it is neither brash nor foolhardy and
does not tempt God.”
- Martin Luther, from his letter “Whether one may
flee from a Deadly Plague” to Rev. Dr. John Hess
What We Believe We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16). The whole Bible, including both Old and New Testaments, is inerrant and infalli-ble in its original documents. The Bible is the divine standard, and is suffi-cient for all matters of doctrine, faith, practice, and godliness (Psalm 19:7-2; 2 Peter 1:3) We believe there is one God (Isaiah 44:5-8). He is perfect and infinite in all His attributes. He is Lord of the universe, having created it by the power of the word of His mouth alone, apart from any natural processes, and He is Lord over mankind, having created us in His image (Genesis 1:27). Within the nature of the one true God are three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The three Persons are co-equal and co-eternal (Acts 5:3-4; Hebrews 1:8) We believe that Jesus Christ was fully God and fully man. He was born of a virgin, and He lived a sinless life. We believe that He was crucified on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins, and that He was raised bodily from the dead on the third day (John 1:1; 2 Peter 1:1). We believe that salvation is by God’s grace alone, apart from any works of man (Ephesians 2:8-9). God’s only provision for salvation is the atoning death of Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12). Saving faith is not only an intellectual assent to the facts of the gospel, but a heart commitment to willingly trust, submit to, and obey the Lord Jesus Christ (John 3:36). We believe once a person is saved, that salvation can never be lost or rejected (Romans 8:38-39). We believe the church (universal) consists of all persons who have trusted in Jesus Christ for salvation, and each local body consists of believers who are together for worship, fellowship, teaching, evangelizing, and exercising spiritu-al gifts (Acts 2:42, 47; Romans 12:5; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; Hebrews 10:25). We believe the Biblical ordinances (commands) for the believer are water baptism by immersion and communion. Baptism is an act of obedience whereby a believer makes a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 6:3-6). Communion is an act of obedience where we remember the sacrifice of Christ and anticipate the glories of His kingdom to come (1 Corinthians 11:24-25). We believe in the personal, premillennial and imminent return of Jesus Christ. We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, of the believer to everlasting glory, and the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:31-46).
