July 25th ~ Feast of St. James
the Apostle This James is the brother of John the
Evangelist. The two were called by Jesus as
they worked with their father in a fishing boat
on the Sea of Galilee. Jesus had already called
another pair of brothers from a similar
occupation: Peter and Andrew. “He walked
along a little farther and saw James, the son of
Zebedee, and his brother John. They too were
in a boat mending their nets. Then he called
them. So they left their father Zebedee in the
boat along with the hired men and followed him” (Mark 1:19-20).
James was one of the favored three who had the privilege of
witnessing the Transfiguration, the raising to life of the daughter
of Jairus and the agony in Gethsemani.
James was apparently the first of the apostles to be
martyred. “About that time King Herod laid hands upon some
members of the church to harm them. He had James, the
brother of John, killed by the sword, and when he saw that
this was pleasing to the Jews he proceeded to arrest Peter
also” (Acts 12:1-3a)
This James, sometimes called James the Greater, is not to
be confused with James the Lesser (May 3) or with the author of
the Letter of James and the leader of the Jerusalem community. Source: http://www.americancatholic.org/Features/Saints/saint.aspx?id=1087

CATHOLIC WOMEN OF OUR LADY Minute Meditation
“So the divine love is sacrificial love. Love
does not mean to have and to own and to
possess. It means to be had and to be owned
and to be possessed, It is not
a circle circumscribed by self, it is arms outstretched
to embrace all humanity within
its grasp ”’—Venerable Fulton Sheen
Pro Life Fact “Religion does not keep us within the
walls of our churches; rather, we go out to
serve the needs of those whose lives and
rights are in danger.” —Source: Fr. Frank Pavone, Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day. 2009

Traveling Chalice Program
at St. Paul Parish Many parishes in the Diocese of Madison have
instituted a "traveling" chalice program to help families
come together and to pray for vocations. It's known as a
"traveling" chalice because the chalice travels to the homes
of parishioners. While praying, the chalice serves as a visual
reminder to those gathered that the precious blood of Our
Lord has saved and redeemed His people, and He continues
to call men to minister at His holy altar - to "do this in
memory of me." Oftentimes, priests have their own chalice,
and many of them are quite rich in symbolism with words,
images and designs that are special to the priest himself. Part of the St. Paul Traveling Chalice program has been
the intention of presenting the newly ordained priest with the
chalice and paten that had been the focus of our prayers.
Rev. Gernetzke located a chalice and paten that he favored.
St. Paul parish has assisted him in refurbishing these.
Consequently, we will continue to use our chalice and paten
to pray for vocations. CONSIDER JOINING IN THIS
MINISTERY—it only takes minutes a day. Taken in part from : http://www.madisondiocese.org/Vocations/
