The Epiphany of the Lord

We may walk many roads when we search for God, and He

leads us all the while. The men we honor today were not

Jews. The Messiah wasn’t coming for them, not in the minds

of Jesus’ contemporaries. These men were astrologers. They

were adept at reading portents in the sky, a practice

condemned in the Mosaic covenant. Still, to the best of their knowledge and awareness,

they were seeking the truth. This truth led them to journey from their own homeland to

honor a king they’d never met, one they couldn’t be sure truly existed. “‘We saw his star

at its rising and have come to do him homage.’” Who do you know seeks God so

tenaciously?

“Magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem,” the Gospel tells us. Who are the seekers in

your own life? Maybe it’s your cautiously curious co-worker, the neighbor who

unexpectedly found peace on a yoga retreat, or your desperately angry child who has

chosen, for now, to go their own way. Perhaps they’re not overtly headed for Jesus now,

not yet. But they may well be seekers of truth in ways we didn’t expect. Our invitation is

to listen, inquire, and give directions when appropriate.

The magi and modern-day seekers can inspire us as well. When is the last time you

sought God’s truth so tenaciously? As believers, it can perhaps be easy to become

desensitized to the Christmas season and to the miraculous reality we recently celebrated.

Mass may have been lovely, but so was the succulent roast beef, the crisp smell of

evergreen, and the warm glow of family. Consider asking yourself, “God, do I know you

as well as I should? Would I journey as far as the magi to meet You, if I could? Do I

journey to meet You daily in prayer? What do those answer say about me, and about our

relationship?” Perhaps we, like the magi, can once again be “overjoyed” at seeing the

Light of the World.

Love Begins Here

Each year St. Francis Xavier Parish

participates in a summer service

missionary known as Love Begins Here

(LBH) through the Diocese of Madison.

LBH is an opportunity for our students to

join other teens in the diocese in serving

local communities. Each session is an

overnight mission where the young adult

experiences service, faith, and fellowship.

This year the middle school will be going

to St. Bernard and St. Henry’s Parishes in

Watertown, June 21-24.

The high school group will be traveling to

St. John the Baptist in Waunakee,

Christmas Program

This year’s Christmas program was nothing short of spectacular. Under the direction

of music teacher, Mrs. Jane Voegeli, students put on a great program entitled,

A Musical Celebration of the Season. Song selections included a wide variety from

“I’m a Little Pine Tree”, “New Teeth for Christmas” to Pachelbel’s “First Noel” and

“Prince of Peace.” These songs were chosen not only to highlight some of the skills

the students haven been working to master in class, but to create special memories

of being able to fully experience the joys of the Christmas season, in the fullest sense

as we celebrate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Students also incorporated

hand bells, drums and

harmonies into many of the

numbers performed.

Liturgical Ministry Spotlight of the Month:

“Music Ministry”

We have an active parish family here at St. Francis Xavier and we know that many

talented people are out there. If you love to sing and/or play an instrument, now is the

time to come forward and share that God-given talent, particularly as a member of our

parish music ministry. We have an Adult Choir, Contemporary Choir, High School

Choir, Youth Choir and Hand Chime Choir, as well as opportunities to cantor and be an

instrumentalist. There’s something for everyone!

To learn more about the music groups in our parish and how to become a part of our

parish music ministry, please email Josephine Cowen at
