GAME RECAP: @ Barrie

The Saginaw Spirit took the final meeting of theseason against the Barrie Colts, 6-3 to start anEastern Conference road trip. It is the first victoryin Barrie for the Spirit since the 2008-09 season.Five Spirit players contributed multi-point effortsin the absence of leading scorer Cole Coskey.

Former Colts captain Justin Murray was plus-onein his return to Barrie. The Spirit defensemanwas honored prior to puck drop for his time withthe Barrie Colts.

The Saginaw Spirit defeated the defendingOntario Hockey League Champion HamiltonBulldogs, 6-3 Saturday evening to sweep theseason series. Eight first period goals sparked awild night in Hamilton as the Spirit tied a season-high for five goals in one period.

Mursak’s single-season Spirit rookie goalrecord. Perfetti leads all Ontario Hockey League(OHL) rookies in both goals (29) and points (61).

Florida Panthers first round pick OwenTippett collected second-star honors with four-point effort. Arizona Coyotes prospect IvanProsvetov made 21 saves in relief to shut downthe Bulldogs. All but four Saginaw Spirit playerscollected points in the victory.

The Saginaw Spirit (39-15-2-3) survived inovertime to extend their points streak to fourgames following Sunday’s 5-4 win over theOshawa Generals at the Tribute CommunitiesCentre.

Rookie Cole Perfetti needed 29 seconds toscore the game-winner in Saginaw’s first win inextra-time this season since November 22.

Saginaw never trailed, but surrendered threestraight goals in the final 12 minutes of the thirdperiod, to split the two-game regular-seasonseries against the third-place Ontario HockeyLeague Eastern Conference Generals.

League for first year players at 62 points. Thispast week, the Whitby native added 9 points tohis season point total season with 6 goals and 3Assists. In 54 games played, the 17 year oldforward has scored 30 goals and recorded 32assists. It was a big weekend for Perfetti, onSaturday breaking the Saginaw Spirit’s previousrecord of most goals scored by a rookie and onSunday, returning to play in his hometown for thefirst time in his OHL Career and recording theovertime winner goal just 29 seconds intoovertime.
