  • SOUTH JUNIOR HIGH ACTIVITIES PHILOSOPHYNO CUTS!EQUAL PLAYING TIME. There is always a spot for your son or daughterOur goal is to try and have every student out for at least 1 activity.Equal Ability Teams.**Except volleyball and boys/girls basketball

  • SOUTH JUNIOR HIGH COACHESWill teach sport specific skills, with an emphasis on learning the sport.Make it a fun experience for the athletes and parents.Provide an environment to make friends.Teach sportsmanship, discipline, & teamwork.Winning games in not important!

  • ACTIVITIES CAN HAVE A POSITIVE EFFECT ON A MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTThere are several researched needs of a middle school student that can be met through activities:

    Trusting relationship with an adult. (Coach)The need to make friends. (Teammates)Formation of an identity. (Role on a Team)The need to play and have fun.Sense of belonging. (Being on a Team)Maintaining fitness and exercising.

  • EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTSAttend practice each day. (Practices are Monday-Thursday 3:30-5:30. (Students will be ready for pick-up at 5:30!) We will practice on Fridays if we have a short week or a canceled practice.Be on time for practices and events.Have a positive attitude.Take care of uniform and equipment.Your son/daughter must return ALL school equipment at the end of the sports season.Bring schedules home.Respect teammates, opponents, coaches, & officials.Respect the school and property.Represent your school and community in a positive & respectful way.

  • EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTSTake care of your school work first!Missing practice for academic reasons is considered excused and will not be held against the student.It is expected that a student at least watch the end of practice if time is spent on academics right after school.

  • EXPECTATIONS OF PARENTSMake sure your athlete has taken care of:Athletic feesEligibility formsPhysicals - No Fee, Forms, or Physical = No ParticipationGet to know your athletes coaches.Encourage your child to get involved in multiple activities.Be a positive role model at events.Provide transportation home and pick up athletes on time at Door 5.Athletes must be picked-up by 5:30pm!

  • EXPECTATIONS OF PARENTSGet car pooling info to coaches ASAPbefore teams are made.Communicate with coaches if son/daughter will miss practice or game.Communicate with me or coaches about concerns right away.Riding away from a contestUnless there is a need, all athletes ride the bus home. Communicate with the coach about a need.

  • SchedulesPlayers should receive a schedule during the first week of practice.You will be able to use the online parent portal through Skyward in the near future to view schedule.You can also view online thru the winter seasons at:http://isd742.org/~southClick on South InformationClick on Calendars

  • SPORT CANCELLATIONSWe will try to make decisions by 2:00pm on the day of an event or practice.The Activities Department will post make up-dates to the South JH website as soon as possible.Go to the South site - www.isd742.org/~south/Click on Current News and Announcements

  • MSHSL RULESWe follow all Minnesota State High School League rules at South.A violation at South follows the student through their 12th grade year.AlcoholTobaccoDrugsHarassment and/or HazingAssault

  • Before the First Day of PracticeMake sure all paper work is complete.Activity fees are paid.Student has a current physical on file with the school.

  • Student Activity Fees$80.00 Registration Fee

    $40.00 If qualify for reduced lunch.

    $20.00 If qualify for free lunch.

  • WHAT SHOULD YOU DO TONIGHTBreak out with the activity your son or daughter is going to participate in this fall. You can meet the coaches and they can answer any further questions.FootballBoys SoccerGirls SoccerVolleyball
