and High/Scope programs. How are creative thinking and the arts included in these two different settings? Which one do you think is the most effective and why? Be prepared to defend your argument to your fellow classmates.

How are creative thinking and the arts included in this program?

Reggio Emilia ProgramCreative thinking is included because children

choose their topics of study and are engaged in them for a period of time. As the children want to know more, a topic of study is selected. The curriculum comes from the children.

Art is included as the students are learning about a topic. They use drawings, sculptures and dramatic productions to demonstrate their learning. They are provided the materials necessary to discover and explore.

High/Scope Program

How are creative thinking and the arts included in this program?

High/Scope Program Critical thinking is included because in this

program the teachers instigate problem-solving by providing a variety of materials and activities, asking the children to plan what they are going to do, and stimulating the children’s thinking by asking questions and making suggestions.

This program includes music, movement, and art as important elements in the curriculum.

The Project Approach This approach begins with the children's

interest and may last for several weeks or months.

The teacher and children discuss what they already know and decide how to learn more.

The teacher expands on the learning by inviting visitors to the classroom.

Children reflect on what they have learned, make representations, and engage in play related to the topic.

Defend the argument that a project approach should follow the interests of the children and is the most meaningful curricular approach for them.

Unit Nine Project

Please share with us one activity that you have included in your final project.

Unit Nine Project For your unit 9 project you will build a portfolio of creative

activities for children ages 0-12 and explain how each can be used in an Early Childhood Care Environment. Choose any of the following age groups and find 3 activities that will nurture and encourage the creativity of that particular age group and explain how it can be used in the classroom.

6 Weeks to 1 Year 2 – 4 Years 5 – 7 Years 8 – 10 Years 10 – 12 Years

Unit Nine Project Continued Each activity should have an APA citation noting its source. Your explanations should be written in complete sentences

and organized into paragraphs .  Be sure to adhere to the 'Online Communication Guidelines' found in the Course Home Section. The Portfolio should also include: A title page A References page in APA format
