SHABBAT SHALOM!

A Message From The Principal

This past Sunday I returned from an amazing whirlwind trip to EretzYisrael. I cannot begin to describe the incredible nachat that this visit hasprovided me and the inspiration that I will take from it. From the ShanaAleph students who are experiencing Kedushat Eretz Yisrael andcompletely immersing themselves in Torah and experiencing full-timeyeshiva life for the first time, to the Shana Bet students who just can'tseem to get enough of this experience. This trip provided me withincredible chizuk (renewed strength).

One of the special highlights was our annual Shana Aleph reunion, whichwas held in Piccolino's, an elegant restaurant in the heart ofYerushalayim. The reunion was an opportunity for the students to shareDivrei Torah, relive high-school memories, reconnect with each other, allwhile enjoying a delicious meal.

A special thank you goes out to Rabbi Ismach who joined me on this trip (surviving the adventure-filledGoose Bay flight) and provided special divrei chizuk at the reunion. Special shout-outs are due as well toTzivia Appleman and Eric Lenefsky for speaking at the event.

It was so powerful to witness firsthand the incredible growth and development of our students and howbeautifully they have built upon the solid foundation that they received at HANC. The Hakarat Hatov that

each of the students have for their HANC education and experience was a recurring theme at each andevery yeshiva and seminary (seventeen to be exact) that we visited.

I want to take this opportunity to thank our star history teacher and HPAC Coordinator, Mrs. Laura Eisnerfor spearheading two amazing programs this past week. You can read about each below--Congresswoman Kathleen Rice and Charlotte Korchak from Standwithus.

Next week we will be taking our show on the road as HANC High School will be visiting the WestHempstead community. I will be joined by my family and other members of the administrative team as wellas Limudei Kodesh faculty members. We are looking forward to what promises to be a ruach-filledShabbos with our students and extended HANC family.

Wishing one and all a Shabbat Shalom. Go 'Canes!

Congresswoman Kathleen Rice Visits Our SchoolStudents talk politics

This past Thursday, February 1, juniors and seniors were privileged to hear from CongresswomanKathleen Rice of New York's 4th Congressional District. Congresswoman Rice's visit featured anintroduction by Senior and HPAC Chairperson Josh Weinstein, followed by the Congresswomanaddressing the students regarding her position, her involvement as a woman in politics, and her concretepro-Israel agenda.

Congresswoman Rice emphasized the importance of getting involved in politics at a young age simply byregistering to vote, as "voting is one's ticket to the political process." The Congresswoman reiterated herunwavering support for the State of Israel as she spoke about her actions in office which reflect herposition on issues such as BDS, including her voting against the Iran Nuclear Deal proposed by theObama Administration.

The Congresswoman believes that Israel is America's greatest friend and ally, and the relationship

between the two countries cannot be broken and we must continue to remain stronger than ever.Congresswoman Rice also explained the importance of separating partisan ties in politics from the ideasand agendas of both politicians and their constituents. Due to the two major parties being the mostpartisan-influenced as ever, Congresswoman Rice explained that we have to be the most proactiveconstituents we can be to ensure positive actions and reforms are passed in Congress in a timelymanner.

We thank the Congresswoman for all that she has done. She serves as a true inspiration to us all andserves as a great role-model to our students.

The Congresswoman's visit also highlighted a key aspect of what HPAC, HANC's Public AffairsCommittee, aims to accomplish: not only is it important to lobby our politicians on Capitol Hill, it is just asimportant, if not more, to develop a strong relationship with your Congressperson to further one's politicalstance and agenda as a proud constituent.

Thank you to Faculty Advisor, Mrs. Laura Eisner, and to Chairperson, Senior Josh Weinstein for organizingthe congresswoman's visit to our school.

On Tuesday, January 30, Ms. Charlotte Korchak, the Director of International Student Programs atStandWithUs, spoke to the senior class about the importance of being proactive in Israel advocacy oncollege campuses and beyond.

From the moment she began speaking, Ms. Korchak captured the audience with her personal story, andkept the students engaged through her humor, passion and intellect. Her message focused on educatingthose who are unaware and apathetic about Israel, and presenting the Jewish narrative in a positive andcomplete manner. Students were inspired to learn more and to increase their activism for Israel, evenasking Ms. Korchak after the session for her suggested reading list.

Thank you to our Israel Advocacy Committee for organizing this important event.
