Dear Parishioners:

You might think it’s too early for the new pastor to bail out, but duty calls! As you read this, I will be in Wilmington,

NC, visiting with one of my best friends from West Point (we were roommates for more than two years, which was really

kind of unheard of in those days). Then on Tuesday it’s on to Beaufort, SC, to visit another classmate. And on Friday I

drive to Destin, FL, for the main reason for my sojourn south: a family reunion.

My brothers – I’ve got five of them (I’m the third oldest) – and five sisters-in-law agreed several years ago that, since

we were all getting older and had no guarantees on longevity, we ought to get together at least every three years for a long

weekend reunion. The first was to a casino in the Mississippi Delta; the next found us in Charleston, SC; our last one was

out in Western Wisconsin at a waterpark; and this year, it’s in Destin.

All except the one in Western Wisconsin have been in mid-Summer. (The Wisconsin one was in early June; of course, it

was chilly and rainy!) Now, you may ask: Who in their right mind would go to Mississippi, South Carolina or the Florida

Panhandle in late July? By choice? I’ve made no secret of the fact that I do not like hot & humid! Never have. Never will.

Destin, most emphatically, was NOT my choice! The Mississippi venue was proposed by Paul (the oldest). He’s retired Air

Force and has lived in San Antonio for the past twenty-five years. The South Carolina one was chosen by Bob (the one im-

mediately behind me); he and his family moved to Tampa in the early ‘80s. They and their families drew the short straw for

planning those early reunions, and I guess the choice of sites was either personal convenience or revenge for some long-

forgotten childhood travesty one or more of the four Wisconsinite brothers perpetrated on them. So, they planned and the

rest of us – Steve, me, Bill, and Dan – just went along meekly for the sake of family unity, but muttering under our breath

all the while.

This year’s locale was the dream child of Paul’s two married sons, John and Joe, who agreed to do the planning with

their wives. Those nephews are in their late-thirties and have lived in San Antonio most of their lives. For them Texas-style

heat is the norm. So, they think nothing of 100 ْtemperatures with sticky-stinky humidity levels. As for the timing, they are

both teachers (and their children students); consequently, the depth of Summer vacation seemed the best time to pull this

off. So, here we go. Hot & humid aside, it will be great to be together again.

This will be some kind of odyssey for me. I used to always go to AAA and get a “trip tik”

(a map packet) prepared for such journeys. This year I’ve got a smart phone with a “map quest” app. I’m either going to

arrive safely at the end of each leg of my travels, or I’m going to wind up hopelessly lost and see you again maybe by

Christmas.

You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers when I’m not totally taken up with brotherly antics or Dante’s Inferno. Enjoy the

wonderful Wisconsin climate to which I yearn to return!

The financial totals above summarize regular donations contrib-

uting to our operating income. They do not including directed

donations, special gifts, memorials or bequests.

In any conversation about our parish operating income, it is im-

portant to remember that what we are “operating” is not simply a

business. Our parish is a faith community with members called

by baptism to build the kingdom of God here on earth. This puts

“operating income and expenses” into a whole new light.

Your financial support helps build the kingdom in our parish by:

Growing our faith family to include 1,505 households, total-

ing 3,697 disciples of Christ.

Being at one with our God in Eucharist at over 270 Masses.

Celebrating 46 baptisms and 55 confirmations of youth and

adults.

Witnessing six couples speak the vows of marriage.

Entrusting to God’s loving embrace 32 souls.

Educating and forming 487 of our youth in the Catholic faith

both in our day school and religious education program.

Touching countless lives through our many ministries.

Thank you for sustaining the mission or our parish through your

financial support.

“We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the

ocean. But the ocean would be less because of the missing drop.”

~ Blessed Mother Theresa
