THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS Do you, or someone you know, feel a calling to grow closer to God through His Church? Saint Gregory the Great welcomes new members and tries to provide appropriate spiritual formation according to each person’s needs. Some who come to us have had little or no affiliation with the Christian faith; others have been baptized and have been active members in other Christian traditions. RCIA is one way this community attempts to share the good news about Jesus Christ to the world around us.

Meetings are Tuesdays, 7 P.M., in the parish Hall.

For more information, please contact: Deacon Ron at [email protected], or 858 653-3582. http://stgg.org/home/serve/christian-formation/rcia

Thanksgiving Our parish has a wonderful Thanksgiving tradition of blessing and distributing small loaves of bread at our Thanksgiving Eve Mass. Please consider bringing a loaf of bread, home-made or store-bought, so that we may continue the warm and wonderful gift of giving bread at the end of the Mass. Breads, such as zucchini, pumpkin, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Please, no white bread. If you are able to help, please bring individually-wrapped loaves of bread to Mass for distribution. If you would like to help carry out this marvelous tradition and cannot attend Mass that evening, please bring them to the parish Office during the day Tuesday, November 22, or Wednesday, the 23rd before Noon. The parish Office closes at Noon the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Eve Mass will be on Wednesday, November 23, at 7 P.M. http://stgg.org/home/home-page-events/thanksgiving-vigil-mass

Ministry to the Homebound

Would you like to volunteer one or two Sundays a month, serving 1-3 parishioners who are unable to attend Mass with us? Training is available, and you must be a Eucharistic Minister. It requires up to two hours a month for a gener-ous heart ready to share the Mass Readings and bring Communion to the homebound. Do you know anyone who would like to receive Communion in their home….elderly, those recovering from surgery or an illness?

For more info, please contact Paulette: 619 857-5443 http://stgg.org/home/serve/liturgy/communion-to-the-homebound

Lord, we thank you for the goodness of our people and for the spirit of justice that fills this Nation. We thank you for the beauty and fullness of the land and the challenge of the cities.

We thank you for our work and our rest, for one another, and for our homes. We thank you, Lord: accept our thanksgiving on this day. We pray and give thanks through Jesus Christ our Lord.

~ USCCB, Thanksgiving Day Prayer Dear Parishioners,

Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal to give thanks for our blessings. We have so much to be grateful for in this great Country! By expressing gratitude, we overcome challenges, we cement relationships with each other and with God. Every time you come to Mass you are thanking God in the best possible way. I want to thank you all personally for your generous stewardship which makes possible the wonderful works of our parish: Faith Formation, Youth Ministry, RCIA, and our flourishing Catholic School. Our many evangelical and service ministries are a testament to your active spirit of giving! May your thanksgiving time be joyful, and may the Lord bless you all abundantly!

Fr. Nick

Thanksgiving Eve Mass will be Wed., November 23, 7 P.M.

As the season of Thanksgiving approaches, we are called to embrace an Attitude of Gratitude, which is the basic premise of stewardship living. Recognizing that everything we have comes from God, we might be inspired to take another look at the word “Thanksgiving”, replacing the word “Giving” with “Living”; we would transition from “Thanksgiving” to “Thanks-living”. In a nutshell, Thanks-living is “ thanking God for the gift of life, by living it triumphantly… thanking God for opportunities, by accepting them as a challenge to achievement… thanking God for inspiration, by living to be an inspiration to others… it is adding to our prayers of thanksgiving, acts of thanks-living.”(Dee F. Anderson) Upcoming dates at our parish School: Dec. 2- Turkey Trot Dec. 6- Advent Reconciliation Dec. 7 & 8- Jolly Gift Christmas Boutique Dec. 8 – Immaculate Conception Liturgy at Church 8 AM Dec. 14 – Winter Movie Night Dec. 15- Christmas Program (ALL ARE WELCOME) 7 PM at the Church

We are so blessed, and have so much for which to be grateful.

St. Gregory the Great Catholic School will be closed for Thanksgiving Break from November 21 through 25.

2016 ADOPT-A-FAMILY HOLIDAY

STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM It is time again for the Saint Gregory the Great Adopt-A-Family Stewardship Program.

The program provides an opportunity for parishioners to share their blessings with those

who are in need, through “adopting” (sponsoring) families who may not otherwise be able

to provide during the holiday season.

How does the program work? You will be asked to purchase and wrap modest gifts. The

packages are to be dropped off at the Parish Hall, here at Saint Gregory the Great, before or after Mass on December

17th and 18th. Early drop-offs can be coordinated if your holiday schedule conflicts with these dates. Gifts will be deliv-

ered to our Sister Parish, Our Lady of Angels, on Monday December 19th.

Gift cards for groceries are also a wonderful way to support these families, even if you are not able to participate in the

wrapped gift program.

On behalf of the Adopt-A-Family Stewardship Program, we thank you for your support!
