ROBERT MCPHERSON ABSTRACTExpect the Unexpected

Representing over a quarter of the global population, millennials are the most influential generation today and the most difficult to define due to their multiple contradictions. They live their lives online but love real-life interactions, their democratic and inclusive, but ask for exclusivity for themselves. Focused on progress, but have a deep sense of nostalgia. When it comes to their personal care, Millennials are looking for instant results and fun experiences whilst maintaining a perfect and protected skin.

In this presentation we will explore some unexpected textures offering an amusing and surprising collection of textures that take care of Millennials skin and hair with efficient active ingredients.

Oana Blythe is a Chemist with 20 years’ experience in Coatings Industry and Personal Care. Oana holds a Master of Science Degree majoring in Polymer Chemistry and a Diploma in Personal Care Formulations. Two years ago, Oana joined A S Harrison New Zealand and is actively involved in promoting their Personal Care Ingredients portfolio for the NZ market.

OANA BLYTHE ABSTRACTApplications of Sodium Hyaluronate

The presentation today is called Applications of Sodium Hyaluronate and fermentation ingredients in Personal Care. Skin moisturizing is one of the key aims of the commercially available skin care products. In order to keep the skin in good condition the cosmetic formulations should contain active compounds which are able to bind water and hence are responsible for water retention. One of the most widely applied active ingredient showing such properties is hyaluronic acid. Bloomage Biotech is the biggest manufacturer of sodium hyaluronate in the world and the first bio-fermentation Sodium Hyaluronate manufacturer in China.

Graduating from Massey University in 1982, Peter has 30 years experience in cosmetic formulations, human and veterinary pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, and nutritionals. Industry roles have included product development, manufacturing, project management and general management.

Peter’s career includes senior management roles with Glaxo Pharmaceuticals, Douglas Pharmaceuticals, New Zealand’s largest pharmaceutical manufacturer, GMP Pharmaceuticals, New Image Group, his consulting company Pharmaceutical Technologies, and now Pharmanz, a new contract manufacturing company in Hamilton.

Peter is currently an elected member of the Executive Board of Natural Products New Zealand, and has served on this industry organisation for natural health and beauty products for 14 years. Pharmanz Limited is now taking inquiries for new dietary supplement business.

PETER LEHRKE ABSTRACT

Beauty from within - the trend continues

The “beauty from within” concept has been around for more than a decade and shows no sign of fading. New ingredients for skincare oral supplements continue to be launched each year and is often a more simple line extension option than simply adding another cosmetic topical product. This presentation explores the trend, some ingredients and presents a new supplement contract manufacturer, Pharmanz Limited, who is now taking inquiries for new dietary supplement business.

WANDA CHIN ABSTRACTThe Micellar trend – new market positioning and opportunities in the shampoo and conditioner space

Consumer behaviour with increased Urbanization, Ageing Population, Safety Desire and Uniqueness means Micellar claims are continuing to expand into the haircare market. Couple this with consumer interest in, and desire for, products containing ingredients which are naturally-derived and sustainably sourced continues to grow, creating demands on formulators and brand owners to respond with hair care formulations to gently remove micro impurities and grease, not just from the hair but also from the pores in the scalp. This presents a unique challenge to formulators to create an efficacious unique formula which is differentiated from current shampoo & conditioner product lines.

This presentation will demonstrate how to position and formulate two distinct new targets; mild shampoo with silicone free conditioning & Conditioning with mild cleansing efficacy in creative product formats of crèmes, milks and foams for an insight into the Co-Washing Micellar Trend.
