In today’s sending forth of the seventy-two,
Jesus provides down-to-earth, practical
instructions. Naturally, many of these
directions do not apply to our situation or our
call to evangelize. But some do.
First of all, he sends them off two by two.
A Christian is not a loner. We are before all else
a community, a fellowship. Jesus is with us
when two or three of us gather together. It is
much easier to minister with others than alone.
Jesus further encourages us to pray as we min-
ister. Our evangelization should arise out of,
invite others into, and culminate in prayer. Our
wonderful relationship to God in Jesus through
the cross is indeed our good news.
He also cautions us to be on guard. We carry a
message uncongenial to the world. If we do not
bring good news of how to be reconciled in God
and with one another. We might be seduced in-
to carrying a message that is not the good news.
We may be tempted to say what people want to
hear. But that is not our task. Our task, as
Paul reminds us, is to boast of nothing more
than the cross: the death and resurrection of
Jesus. We cannot afford to get sidetracked into
politics or other questions. Let us keep our eyes
firmly on our task.
lizar.
ticia. También nos advierte que estemos en
guardia. Llevamos un mensaje descontento al
mundo. Si no traemos buenas noticias de cómo
reconciliarnos con Dios y con los demás. Po-
dríamos ser seducidos para llevar un mensaje
que no es la buena noticia. Podemos sentirnos
u otras cuestiones. Mantengamos nuestros ojos
firmemente en nuestra tarea.

“… so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”
Prayer for Extraordinary Missionary Month Prayer proposed by Pope Francis- Heavenly Father, when your only begotten Son Jesus Christ rose from the dead, he commissioned his followers to “go and make disciples of all nations” and you remind us that through our Baptism we are made sharers in the mission of the Church. Empower us by the gifts of the Holy Spirit to be courageous and zealous in bearing witness to the Gospel, so that the mission entrusted to the Church, which is still very far from completion, may find new and efficacious expres-sions that bring life and light to the world. Help us make it possible for all peoples to experience the saving love and mercy of Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.
