Are you a First Responder?Santa Cruz is proud of all of our parish first responders. We only have to watch the evening news to be reminded of the daily risks our fire fighters, emergency service responders, and law enforcement officers face in order to provide for a safer community for us. In an effort to recognize the dedication of these parishioners in the future, Santa Cruz asks that anyone that actively serves or has served in a first responder role contact Jim Blodgett (512) 847-0752 to provide contact informa-tion. Thanks again for all that you do to keep us safe here at Santa Cruz Church!

33rd Sunday of Ordinary TimeNov. 15, 2015

Considering the economic injustice experi-enced by the impoverished and the violence unfolding throughout the world, may our prayerful hope continue to be, as St. John Paul II implored on the centenary of Rerum Novarum, that “people learn to fight for justice without violence, renouncing class struggle in their internal disputes, and war in international ones” (Centesimus Annus, 23).

PLEASE STAY REGISTERED IN THE PARISH!

With over 2,775 households in the parish it is a big task to keep up with everyone! Santa Cruz is larger than many towns in Texas.

We try to update our census each year. The following parishioners will be

AUTOMATICALLY re-registered for 2016:üThose who use their envelopes

for CASH donationsüThose who use a CHECK to give

their donationüThose who use the electronic

(automatic withdrawal) givingThere are currently 1,120 families who

do not do any of the above. Therefore, it is difficult to know if these families are still committed to the parish.

Between now and January 1, 2016, I ask these families [who wish to remain members in 2016] to return at least ONE EMPTY EN-VELOPE in the collection.

Two priests have the responsibility of car-ing for over 14,000 individuals. All we are asking is (not money) but the “show of com-mitment” of one empty envelope before the end of the year.

Unfortunately, those who do not respond in this minimal way will be deleted from the list of active parishioners in 2016.

Volunteers Needed in the Buda/Kyle Area!We have over 300 people requesting volunteers to help them recover from the recent floods. Volunteers can be individuals or groups. If you would like to help the Volunteer Center is open at the PCT. 5 building in Buda, Monday through Friday, 9AM-3PM, or you can call (512) 931-1167. Please! The need is great and we have had few volunteers. They have the supplies you will need at the center.

??CHRISTMAS SCHEDULE??Planning Mass schedules for holidays is always problematic. No one schedule will work for everyone.

Below is the Christmas Schedule for the last 2 years. As you see some Masses were heavily attended and some were poorly attended.

Based on this information, I am “thinking about” the following changes for this year.

FIRST: changing the language on the early Masses. A number of elderly (who don’t speak Spanish) came to the 4pm Mass be-cause they cannot drive after dark. I believe that younger families will like the vigil Mass earlier. Hopefully, too, it will improve the attendance if the Spanish mass is at 6:30 PM.

SECOND: The years of packed Midnight Masses has ended. The past few years the church has been half empty. I am consider-ing having the solemn Mass at 10pm rather than midnight.

THIRD: The small attendance on Christmas day does not war-rant 2 Masses. We would offer one bilingual Mass at 10:00 AM. That would hopefully be a better hour for both language groups.

Your comments are appreciated. I will have to make a decision in the next two weeks. Please send your constructive suggestions to my secretary, Juanita Rodriguez at: [email protected].

Fr. Kirby

Nov. 14 & 15, 2015 / 14 & 15 de noviembre, 2015Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

THE FLOOD “in” SANTA CRUZOn October 30th, Buda received 14” of rain. Unfortunately some of that rain entered the church. The problem was not the roof. The prob-lem was the amount of rain that fell. That large amount of water could not flow away from the church quickly enough. As a result, water entered the church under doors, walls etc.

We were blessed (through the help of the diocese) to have a company come in that very afternoon to begin extraction of water. For the last several weeks you have noticed “green machines” around the church. These are in place to help dry the carpet as well as extract humidity.

The next step will be to remove the baseboards in the church to help us evaluate the damage and the possible need for further action. At this point, it seems that we will also have to remove all of the carpet in the church.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

As with many things in life, “it could have been worse!”

Fr. Kirby

SANTA CRUZ CATHOLIC SCHOOL/ESCUELA CATOLICANews from the Principal’s Desk

In this weekend’s bulletin you will find a summary of our Parish Fiesta. What a great success it was! This success would not have been possible without the leadership of our school Fiesta committee members and Michelle Quintanilla, our Director of Advancement, who provided support and communication among all of the groups involved in making the Fiesta a success. My heartfelt thanks to ev-eryone within our parish and school community for a job well done!

Our student were busy this week preparing for our first School Mass to be held this Sunday at the 11:00 Mass. At this Mass, our students will be the choir, lectors, altar servers, and gift bearers. We will have two more Masses this school year where we will participate in a similar way, one in January and one in April. These Masses are always the highlight of our week.

We had three families who have children in our school and are parishioners that suffered great losses from the flooding rains two weeks ago. Two families lost their homes and a majority of the con-tents and one family suffered a lot of water damage. If you would like to help, we are accepting donations at the school office. Gift cards or monetary donations are greatly appreciated.

Have a blessed week,Mrs. Flanagan

Non-Discrimination Policy: Schools within the Diocese of Austin do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in: (i) the admission of students; (ii) the offerings of rights, privileges, programs, or activities generally made available to their students; or (iii) the administration of educational policies, admissions policies, loan programs, athletic programs, employment practices or policies, or other school-administered programs.

Bendiciones,Sra. Flanagan

St. Vincent de Paul Society/Sociedad de San Vicente de PaulThe Society of St. Vincent de Paul Santa Cruz Conference is currently working on the ANGEL TREE Program for this Christmas Season. Letters have been sent to our friends in need, whom we have served, in our community. These families have children 12 and under who will benefit from the generosity of the parishioners of Santa Cruz. Again this year we will also have Angel Tags for the families of the children. If you are aware of families in need please refer them to the St. Vincent de Paul cell number (512)-415-4012.

Look for the Angel Tags on the Angel Tree in the church narthex the weekend of November 28 and 29, 2015. Adopting a tag, representing a child, is a great way to teach your children what the season is really all about. And for those of us who no longer have children at home, what a better way to reach out to the Christ Child than by helping out others.

Thank you and May God Bless you this Christmas Season.Members of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Santa Cruz

Conference

Nov. 14 & 15, 2015 / 14 & 15 de noviembre, 2015Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

2015 Holy Cross Festival ReportWe would like to THANK all our Ministries, Organizations, Sponsors and most especially all the Volunteers that assisted prior to and during this year’s Holy Cross Festival held September 12 and 13th. This event could not have been such a success without all the volunteers that came together as a wonderful team for the benefit of our Parish. We hope everyone had a wonderful time at the festival and we pray that our suc-cess will only continue to improve in the years to come. A special note of appreciation to the 12 plus school families that formed the Festival Committee and their exemplary effort in making this event a success. This year, our Parish gained a 69% increase in revenue from last year.

The net income for the 2015 Festival was $77,569.18The groups and ministries who participated were given a detailed

report on their booths at a meeting on November 5th. Again, we wish to express our most sincere gratitude to all those involved with this success. We are absolutely elated with the outcome.

With Gratitude,2015 Holy Cross Festival Committee

Thank You!Thank you to the Sacred Heart Men’s Club for donating baked goods to the Knights of Columbus bake sale. Proceeds of this bake sale are for the annual Senior Citizens dinner, which is open to our parishioners 65 years of age or older. It will be held Sunday, December 6th, at 6PM in Deane Hall. The SHMC truly epitomizes Romans 12:5 “so it is with Christ’s body we are many parts of one body and we all belong to each other.” (NLT).This is working together for our church community.

¡Gracias!

Bingo Report (11/08/15) - A small crowd of only 66 players enjoyed our bingo games last Sunday and they took home $1,871.00 in prizes won. The bingo games netted a good profit of $458.20 and our concessions took in $231.85 for a total income of $690.05. A big thank you to the following KC’s who operated the bingo games: Mario A. Mendez, Joe Collins, Eric Martinez, Bob Buras, Pilar Barbato, Ronnie Ojeda, Dominic Salinas, Manuel Vela and Lee Verver. We also thank our super concession crew consisting of: Jose Morales, Jacinto Saucedo III, Reyna & Al Garza, and Joe Medina. Of course, we are always grateful for the patronage and support from our regular players and parishioners. The jackpot number will be 55 numbers this week. We look forward to seeing you Sunday at 2:00 PM in the Father Joseph Deane Hall.

That Man is You! - We have begun the fall semester and we would love for you to join us! We are meeting this Wednesday at 6:30PM in room ED116 (Library). We will also meet Thursday mornings at 5:30AM in the Youth Room (room 120).
