Classroom Routine• Students are expected to enter the classroom quietly and calmly. They are

to put their backpacks, jackets, and lunch boxes in the classroom closet and their notebooks in their desks.

• Each morning students will come in and sign the attendance sheet at the front of the room.

• Homework should be put in the subject baskets in the front of the room. • After all belongings are put away and notes and money are put in

appropriate folders, students should get a sharp pencil from the pencil jar and begin working on their morning work posted on the white board.

• Tardy students should sign in to the front office and come to the classroom with a pass from the office. When they return from the office, they should begin working on morning work.

Folders• All notes for the teacher should be placed in the red folder. • All notes, excuses, and money for the office should be placed in the purple

folder.• Lunch money should be placed in the orange folder.• All folders are located in the front of the room under the white board. • Folders will be taken to either the office or lunch room by the class leaders

for the week.• Each Wednesday a green assignment folder will be sent home with all of

your student’s completed work for the week. It will also have a weekly newsletter for the next week. Please empty it and return the folder back to the classroom by Friday.

Attendance• Attendance is crucial to your student’s academic achievement. However, in

the case of an absence notes should be placed in the purple folder when the student returns.

• All assignments for the day will be posted on the white board. All worksheets from the previous day will be placed on the students’ desk for them to take home upon their return to school. They may be completed either during free time or at home and returned within two days of absence. Assignments will also be posted on the class website weekly. In the event of multiple sequential absences, please call or e-mail me ASAP for assignments.

End-Of-Day• At 2:00 on Tuesdays, students will alternate going to computer and the

library every other week.• At 2:00 on Thursdays, students will alternate going to art and music every

other week.• On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays students will be allowed to

complete any unfinished work for the week due to absences or other reasons. If students do not have any uncompleted work, they will be allowed to work on a preferred activity (See P.A.T. slide).

• At 2:30 each day, students will start to clean up their desks and put away all materials, get out their backpacks, and prepare to go home.

• At 2:45 we will begin out dismissal.

Dismissal• Each day at 2:30, we will begin wrapping up assignments and start packing

up our things. On Wednesday, the student’s green assignment folder will be sent home for a parent or guardian to sign. The student needs to return the folder to school by Friday.

• Car riders will be sent to car rider line at 2:45.• Bus riders will go to their lines in the hallway and await loading at 2:47.• After school care students will be dismissed at 2:50 to the gymnasium.• In the event of a change in transportation, parents or guardians need to

send a note to school for student to turn into the red folder.• If there is an emergency or early dismissal, the teacher will receive an e-

mail and the information explaining will be posted on the school’s website.

Preferred Activity Time• Preferred Activity Time is when a students is allowed to work on an

educational project of their choice.• They can research a topic that they choose and I approve and present the

information to the class in any way they choose.• Each student will have a cubby area in the class closet to keep their

materials.• They will need to keep a list of any materials they might need for their

project and I will get them for them.

Homework• Homework will be posted each week on the white board. As part of the

morning work, students will copy it in their notebooks.• Homework for my class is for your student’s benefit. It will be assigned only

to reinforce our objectives for the week. • Typical homework will be to review for a test or study spelling or

vocabulary words.• Also, students will read each week and parents will need to sign a reading

log.• Make-up work should be completed and turned in within two days of

absence with an excuse.

Homework continued...• Any take home assignments will receive either a check or no check. • If it is completed, then it gets a check. • If it more than half unfinished then no check will be given.• 5 checks in week= A for homework for that week.• 4 checks in week = B for homework for that week.• 3 checks in week = C for homework for that week.• 1-2 checks in week = D for homework for that week.

Star Student• Every month a student will be picked at random to share a little about

themselves. • They will create an “All About Me” poster that will be displayed in the front

of the classroom. • It will include any information that the student would like to share about

themselves and can be decorated any way they like.• At the beginning of the year I will display one about me as an example for

the students.

Happy Birthdays• On the last Friday of each month, we will all students’ birthdays for that

month together during preferred activity time. • I will provide snacks and we will have free time to celebrate.• They will also be posted in the class newsletter.

Medications• It is our school’s policy that ALL medications should be brought to the

nurse’s office by a parent before the first day of school.• Medications can ONLY be administered by the school nurse.

Visitors• All visitors are required to report to the main office to sign in and get a

visitors tag.• Visitors are always welcome to eat lunch with your students.• Anyone interested in volunteering or becoming a room parent please see

me after the presentation. • Room parents are asked to come on Fridays to help with copies, laminating,

class parties, etc. Help is greatly appreciated!• PTO is also in need of volunteers for the fall carnival and fundraisers. If

interested please e-mail me for more information.

Classroom Rules

• Respect yourself, others, and our classroom.

• Follow directions.• Keep your hands and feet to yourself.• Always do your best!!!

Ticket System• Students will have opportunity through the day to receive tickets. • They can receive them by an adult noticing good behavior.• Tickets can be redeemed at the end of each day.

Consequences• Each students will have a pocket with 5 sticks in it at the back of the

classroom. • When bad behavior is recognized, they will be asked to pull a stick and put

it in the “pulled sticks” pocket, write their offense on the clip board, the date and sign their name.

Group Work• During group work, students should:

– Work quietly– Respect others– Keep area clean and neat– Follow directions

• At the front of the room, I will keep a board with numbered squares around it. Each group will be assigned a colored clothes pin. When I notice good behavior 5during group work, I will move that groups clothes pin around the board. When the a group gets all the way around the board they will get 5 tickets each.

Small Groups• Each student will be assigned a small group for reading based on their

reading level. As the year progresses, students may be moved to higher groups based on their own growth.

• After whole group reading, I will meet with small groups. • While I am meeting with a small group, the rest of the class will rotate to

different reading centers with the sound of my timer.• During the last 30 minutes of math, there will be an opportunity for an

intervention math group to meet while the rest of the class works independently on objective for the day. In addition to the intervention group any student that would like extra help with objective may meet with me.

Seat Work• All work should be completed by following my directions.• I will always post directions and read directions before beginning a task.• For independent work, students will put up folders around their work area.• What if I finish early?

– Complete morning work– Complete any unfinished assignments– Read library book OR– Preferred Activity (if sufficient time)

Learning Centers• Learning centers will typically be used during reading.• Occasionally I will have a learning center with other subjects as well.• There are four centers students will rotate between with an average of 4

students at each center.• Students will move between each center at the sound of my timer.• Before they move, it should be as neat as when they got to it with all

materials put away.• If the noise level gets too high, there will first be a warning. If it continues,

we will stop and do independent work.

Respect our classroom• This is our classroom. That means that it is your job, as well as mine, to

make sure that our library, games, and supply area stays nice and neat. • Do not take anything off the teachers desk without permission first.• The supply area includes paper, pencils, pencil sharpener, crayons,

markers, scissors, tape, and glue.

I need to...• We will take two scheduled bathroom/water fountain breaks a day.• If you need to go to the restroom, cross your fingers and hold them in the

air.• If you need to go get water, hold two fingers in the air.• I will let you know if you can be excused and if it is okay you may get the

pass and go.

Talk to me!• Each week I will send home a newsletter for the next week and the

students’ completed work from the previous week.• If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or e-

mail me.• As a white stick consequence, you will be called in the event of

misbehavior.
