All About Me My background

I grew up in Vero Beach, Florida. I graduated from Vero Beach High

School and the University of Central Florida with a degree in Elementary Education.

My experience I’ve been teaching for 18 years. I have taught 3rd and 4th grade.

• Volunteering: I would love to have volunteers come in the room and help students with math. If you feel lead, please let me know. Also, if you are on campus for any reason, please go to the office and sign in. You must have a visitor’s pass to be on campus at any time.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?

• Tutoring once a week for an hour, or even 30 minutes with struggling readers.

DRESS CODE

• Solid color “polo type” golf shirt of any color.

• Trousers, shorts, jumpers with collared shirt underneath, capris and skorts must be khaki, navy, or black.

• Solid color dress with sleeves and a collar.

• Shorts, skorts, jumpers must be finger-tip length.

• Closed-toe and heal shoes.• Socks must be a matching pair.• Jeans may be worn only on Friday or a

field trip day with a Beachland T-Shirt.

MONDAY FOLDERS AND STUDENT AGENDAS

• Monday Folders: Please review all papers with your child, sign, and return the folder the next day.

• Agenda: Please check it for home- work information and initial it each day. This is a great communication

tool!

HOMEWORK• Purpose: Necessary practice (get in the habit

for higher grades)and information for parents.

• Look in the front pocket of your child’s binder for all homework assignments.(They do not have to be done in the exact order.)

• The homework packet will be sent home on Friday of each week. Please return on following Friday.

• Homework should take no more than 30-40 minutes, including reading time.

HOMEWORK HELP• YES, it is wonderful if you can help your

child with the homework.(They should be able to do most of it independently)

• If I can provide 5 minutes of one- on- one instruction to your child, and you can provide 15 minutes; you have tripled their one-on-one time.

TYPICAL HOMEWORK• Read 20 – 30 minutes daily.• Reading Response Journal – Answer a

question each night that goes along with the focus skill for the week. These questions are located in the front of the journal. The title of the book, date, question, and answer should be in the journal each night.

• Study weekly vocabulary words and write sentences that show the meaning of the word is understood.

• Math homework - The Math workbook will be sent home every Monday and is to be returned on Friday.

• Science or Social Studies homework.

Tests/non-graded work

•All graded papers in Monday folder will count towards report card grade. Ex. Reading selection tests, daily language tests, and spelling tests.

•If a paper has a star, sticker, or smiley face on it, and no grade, it means we did most of it together in class.

•Much of the work we do in class stays in class until the end of the year. Ex. Much of our writing is in their composition books, math is kept in the workbook, and spelling, grammar, reading is in practice book. You are welcome to peruse your child’s work at any time.

SNACKS• A BIG thank you goes out to Chris Yates

for being our “Snack Mom” this year. She has bought, bagged, and brought in snack for your child every day of the month thus far.

• We will be asking for a $2.00 donation from every child to help defray the cost of the snacks.

• Please send in your donation promptly so Chris can utilize the money for the snack.

• Water bottles may be kept at their desks.

Our class will be heading to the ELC on Tuesday, October 2nd.

Please check either your child’s agenda or the Monday folder for further details.
