Dear Parent/Carer

Welcome to Lisle Marsden Childcare! This booklet will tell you a little about who we are and

what we do; please read it through carefully and keep for future reference. If you should have

any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Lisle Marsden Childcare is a not-for-profit company and a registered charity whose main aim is

to provide quality early education and childcare for the children and families of the local and

wider community. A board of directors oversee the management of the company which is

entirely self-funding and relies upon income generated from parental fees, and Nursery

Education Funding. Any profit accumulated at the end of the financial year is put back into the

provision to improve our service. We are approved and inspected by the Office for Standards in

Education (OFSTED) and members of the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA). At our

most recent OFSTED inspection in January 2020 we received a judgement of being an

Outstanding provider of early years care and education; you can read our inspection report on

https://reports.ofsted.gov.uk/provider/16/EY441225

Our staff work hard to present a friendly, caring atmosphere where all the children feel happy

and secure. We work closely with Lisle Marsden C of E Primary Academy and Family Hubs to

provide a seamless and high quality service for our families. We aim to be friendly and

approachable and hope that you will talk to us if you have any worries or concerns.

Finally we would like to thank you for entrusting your child to us. It is a responsibility we

promise to take very seriously and we hope that you and your child will be very happy here with

us!

Tax Free Childcare Tax Free Childcare is an online payment account, topped up by the Government, which parents use solely to pay their childcare costs. For every £8 that families pay in, the Government will make a top-up payment of £2, up to a maximum of £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 for disabled children). For further details please see our ‘Admissions Policy’ and ‘Fee Charging Policy’

Opening hours Lisle Marsden Childcare is open to children aged 2 to 12 years from 7.45 am – 6.00 pm Monday to Friday throughout the year. We are closed on Bank Holidays and for one week between Christmas and New Year. Arrivals and departures The adults named on the registration form are the only people allowed to collect your child. If anyone other than yourself (parent/carer) is collecting your child it is essential that you let the staff know. There is a collection form for you to fill in with the details of who is collecting your child. A password and/or photo identification is also required where possible. When you bring your child they will be collected from you at the main door. Parents/carers will come into the setting at the end of session to collect their child. If Covid-19 restrictions are introduced parents will not be permitted to enter the setting at the end of the session to collect their child, the children will be brought to the door for you.

Late collection and Non-collection Children need to be collected on time; an after-hours fee of £6.00 per quarter hour may be imposed for persistent late collection. In the instance of a child not being collected from the setting after a reasonable amount of time has been allowed for lateness we will try to contact the parent/carer. If unsuccessful we will go through all other contacts. As a last resort Social Services will be contacted. For further details please see our policies on ‘Arrivals and Departures’ and ‘Late Collection and Non-collection’ Settling in Before starting their regular sessions your child can attend one or more settling-in sessions lasting one hour. We appreciate that it can be very distressing for parents to leave their child for the first time however, you should always ensure that you say goodbye to your child and reassure them that you will be back shortly; this helps your child to understand that although you are leaving them you will come back. The practitioners will work hard to ensure that your child feels happy and secure, leaving with a smile having had a good time, and wanting to return another day. If your child finds it difficult to settle in your child’s key person will work closely with you to put strategies in place to help. For further details please see our ‘Settling in’ policy

Groups and routines When your child starts they will be allocated a colour group and key person. Part of the key person role is to carry out regular observations and assessments in order to track children’s developmental progress and plan activities suited to their individual interests and stage of development. All parents have full access to their child's developmental assessments and are welcome to see them at any time. Generally each day will follow the same pattern, which becomes familiar to the children and helps them to feel secure and support the development of independence skills. Morning Routine

Learning and Development Children learn by leading their own play, and by taking part in play which is guided by adults. We work hard to create an environment which will maximise the opportunities for a wide range of play experiences to support children’s learning and development. We acknowledge parents as primary educators and encourage parental involvement as outlined in our Parents and Carers as Partners policy. We build strong home links in order to enhance and extend children’s learning both within both the setting and in the child’s home. Parents and carers have access to a variety of resources from our Home Learning Library to support their child’s learning and development at home. For further details please see our ‘Learning and Development’ policy

Forest School At Lisle Marsden Childcare we offer Forest School sessions to all children. Forest School is an inspirational process that offers children opportunities to achieve, and develop confidence through hands-on learning in a woodland environment. The children’s interest along with the varied natural resources in our woodland are used to stimulate creative thinking, problem solving and skill development, all in the guise of play. Forest School practice not only contributes to children’s knowledge and understanding of the environment, but has also been shown to increase self-esteem and self-confidence; improve social and physical skills; contribute to the development of language and communication; and to encourage concentration skills. Forest School is about exploring and experiencing the natural world through practical activities. Sessions include a variety of outdoor activities including bug hunts, digging, den building, and exploring. As children become more confident during these sessions activities may include whittling, use of saws, fire making (lighting to be carried out by adults only) and cooking on fires. Activities of this nature will at all times be age appropriate and carried out by a qualified Forest School practitioner with appropriate levels of supervision and protective equipment. For our Forest School sessions we use woodland area within Oasis Academy grounds. It is entirely enclosed and safe for the children. The children go out in all weathers, all year round, exploring and learning from the four seasons and environment changes. You will be informed in advance of when your child will be taking part in Forest School sessions.

Parents and carers as partners We believe that in order for children to receive quality care and early learning that suits their individual needs, parents and staff need to work together in close partnership. The two-way sharing of information is key to this. The team at Lisle Marsden Childcare welcomes parents as partners and this relationship needs to be built on trust and understanding. It is important that we as practitioners are able to support parents in an open and sensitive manner. Information Sharing Close working and information sharing between us, parents and other settings attended by the children such as a nursery, childminder or school, is vital for the identification of children’s learning needs and to ensure a quick response to any areas of particular difficulty. We will be working closely with your child’s key person in other settings to ensure that your child is receiving the consistent support, care and attention that they deserve Staff are trained to observe their key children and as such will be sensitive to any changes in their behaviour and personality. We respectfully ask that parents inform us of any changes in the home environment that may impact on their child so staff can be aware of the reasons behind any potential changes in the child’s character. Your key person is not only there for your

Page 11: Welcome to Lisle Marsden Childcare

11

child but also for you and your whole family. If you are experiencing any difficulties at home your key person is there to listen, support and advise you. We work closely with both Lisle Marsden Primary Academy and Family Hubs and are able to put you in contact with a range of support agencies should you need it. We understand that in times of difficulty emotions may run high but we respectfully request that we are not asked to take sides in any disputes. We will only take the side of your child and this will require us to be neutral at all times. For further details please see our ‘Separated Family’, ‘Bereavement’ and ‘Supporting Transitions’ policies. Key Person Appointments You will be invited to informal meetings with your child’s key person to discuss your child’s developmental progress. However, please do not hesitate to make an appointment to see your key person at any time if you want to discuss something. If Covid-19 restrictions are introduced these appointments will be via telephone. Newsletters You will receive regular newsletters. Please take time to read newsletters to keep you informed of important dates, events and updates on policies and procedures. Newsletters are emailed unless you request paper copies on your registration form. Inclusion and Equality Lisle Marsden Childcare is committed to the inclusion of all children. All children have the right to be cared for and educated to develop to their full potential alongside each other through positive experiences, to enable them to share opportunities and experiences and develop and learn from each other. We provide a positive and welcoming environment where children are supported according to their individual needs. Early learning opportunities offered in the setting encourage children to develop positive attitudes to people who are different from them. It encourages children to empathise with others and to begin to develop the skills of critical thinking. The setting is committed to providing equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice for all children and families according to their individual needs. Discrimination on the grounds of gender, age, race, religion or belief, marriage or civil partnership, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or maternity, ethnic or national origin, or political belief has no place within this setting. For further details please see our ‘Inclusion and Equality’, ‘Special Educational Needs’ policies. KEEPING SAFE, HEALTHY AND HAPPY AT LISLE MARSDEN

Safeguarding children At Lisle Marsden Childcare we work with children, parents, external agencies and the community to ensure the welfare and safety of children and to give them the very best start in life. Children have the right to be treated with respect, be helped to thrive and to be safe from any abuse in whatever form. Practitioners have a duty to protect and promote the welfare of children. Due to the many hours of care we are providing, staff will often be the first people to sense that there is a problem. They may well be the first people in whom children confide about abuse. Our Safeguarding policy lays out the procedures that will be followed if we have any reason to believe that a child in our care is subject to welfare issues including physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect. For further details please see our ‘safeguarding’ policies.

Page 12: Welcome to Lisle Marsden Childcare

12

Absences As part of our requirements under the statutory framework and guidance documents we are required to monitor children’s attendance patterns to ensure they are consistent and no cause for concern. Parents are asked to inform the setting prior to their children taking holidays or days off, and all sickness should be reported to the setting on the day so the setting’s management are able to account for a child’s absence. If you do not inform us why your child is absent we will try to contact you. For further details please see our ‘Monitoring Children’s Attendance’ policy.

Health and safety We have a range of systems and procedures in place to ensure that all reasonably practical steps are taken to ensure the health, safety and welfare of all children and adults using the premises. In order to maintain a safe, secure and healthy environment for the children we follow strict procedures relating to safety checks and risk assessment on premises, equipment and activities; security and supervision; fire and emergency evacuation; appropriate intimate care routines; maintaining high hygiene standards and following appropriate food hygiene procedures. The majority of staff are trained to provide paediatric first aid and parents/carers will be informed about any accidents or incidents involving their child. For further details please see our ‘health and safety’ policies.

Managing feelings and behaviour At Lisle Marsden Childcare we believe that children flourish best when they know how they are expected to behave. Children gain respect through interaction with caring adults who show them respect and value their individual personalities. Positive, caring and polite behaviour will be encouraged and praised at all times in an environment where children learn to respect themselves, other people and their surroundings. Positive behaviour and achievements are rewarded with praise, encouragement, stampers, stickers and certificates in order to help your child succeed and want to behave in acceptable and positive ways. Separate sticker charts are used to encourage positive behaviour in children with consistent behaviour problems; this is always implemented in consultation with the parent/carer and sticker charts are made available for parents to encourage positive behaviour at home. Negative behaviour will be handled using recognised techniques appropriate to the child’s age, level of development and the circumstances surrounding the behaviour. Such techniques may include distraction away from the negative situation or a period of ‘time-out’ with the child being asked to talk and think about what he/she has done. Discussions with children will take place where they receive support in seeing what was wrong and working towards a better pattern of behaviour respecting their level of understanding and maturity. Children will not be singled out or humiliated in any way and it will always be made clear to the child or children in question, that it is the behaviour and not the child that is unwelcome Confidential records will be kept on any significant incidents involving negative behaviour that has taken place. Parents will be informed and asked to read and sign any entries concerning their child If a child requires help to develop positive behaviour, every effort will be made to provide for their needs. Parents may be contacted to discuss their child's behaviour, so that if there are any difficulties we can work together to ensure consistency between their home and the setting. In some cases we may request additional advice and support from other professionals, such as an educational psychologist.

For further details please see our ‘Behaviour Management’ policy.

Medical matters Please ensure that we are made fully aware of any medical matters affecting your child, including allergies; there is a section on the registration form for this purpose. Children should not be brought to the setting if they are unwell as their illness may be contagious and easily spread to the other children. If a child is unwell then they will prefer to be at home with their parent/carer; the settings environment is full of activity and can be tiring, and is therefore not the best place for a child to rest and recuperate. Infectious Diseases It is vital that we follow the advice given to us by our registering authority and exclude specific contagious conditions, e.g. Covid-19, sickness and diarrhoea, conjunctivitis and chicken pox to protect other children in the setting. Illnesses of this nature are very contagious and it is exceedingly unfair to expose other children to the risk of an infection. Parents are requested to inform the setting immediately if their child has an infectious disease. Children must not attend if they are displaying any Covid-19 symptoms. Any children displaying symptoms will be immediately isolated and sent home. Please do not bring your child to the setting if he or she is suffering from sickness and diarrhoea (please be clear 48 hours before returning), a persistent cough, a heavy cold or a temperature. Only return your child to the setting once the appropriate treatment has been administered for common infections such as: Worms; Head lice; Scabies; Impetigo; Conjunctivitis; Ringworm; Hand, foot and mouth. Only return your child to the setting once he or she has ceased to be contagious and is fit and well following childhood diseases such as: Chicken pox; Measles; Mumps; Whooping cough; German measles. We are only able to administer prescribed medicine while your child is at the setting. A form must be completed giving written instructions and permission for staff to administer medication. The same procedure applies to inhalers. For further details please see our ‘Sickness and Illness’ and ‘Medication’ policy. Snacks and lunch Your child will be offered a healthy snack and a drink during both the morning and afternoon session. We ask for a contribution of 20p a day. If your child attends all day or for the afternoon session you will need to provide a healthy packed lunch or purchase a school meal. School meals are provided through Chartwells, the school meal provider for Lisle Marsden Primary Academy. Due to many children now having nut allergies we aim to provide a nut free environment. We kindly ask parents not to put any products containing nuts in packed lunches as airborne particles from nuts can be enough to trigger a severe allergic reaction in some children. Uniform Uniform is available to purchase though our website although it is not compulsory. We do provide aprons for messy activities but it is inevitable that occasionally accidents do happen, so if your child does not wear a uniform it would be advisable not to dress them in their best clothes.

Page 14: Welcome to Lisle Marsden Childcare

14

Lost property Please make sure you name all items of clothing, especially jumpers, coats and bags. There is a lost property box for items that have been left behind at the end of the day. The lost property box will be emptied and uncollected items given to charity or disposed of at the end of each term. Complaints and compliments

Lisle Marsden Childcare believes that parents are entitled to expect courtesy and prompt, careful attention to their individual needs and wishes. We hope that at all times you will be happy with the service provided. Complaints will be dealt with professionally and promptly to ensure that any issues arising from these complaints are handled effectively and to ensure the welfare of all children. All complaints about Lisle Marsden Childcare must be directed to the setting and not to Lisle Marsden Primary Academy. We welcome any suggestions from parents on how we can improve our services, and will give prompt and serious attention to any concerns that you may have by following our complaints procedure as outlined below:

Complaints procedure Stage 1 If any parent should have cause for complaint or any queries regarding the care or early learning provided by the setting they should in the first instance take it up with the child's key person or a deputy manager. Stage 2 If the issue remains unresolved or parents feel they have received an unsatisfactory outcome, then these concerns must be presented in writing to the manager. The manager will then investigate the complaint and report back to the parent within five working days. This will be fully documented in the complaints log book and will detail the nature of the complaint and any actions arising from it. (Most complaints are usually resolved informally at stage 1 or 2.) Stage 3 If the matter is still not resolved, a formal meeting will be held between the manager, parent and a senior staff member to ensure that it is dealt with comprehensively. A record of the meeting will be made along with documented actions. All parties present at the meeting will review the accuracy of the record, sign to agree and receive a copy. The matter will also be reported to the company board of directors. If you do not feel happy with the outcome of your complaint it can, on request, be referred to the board of directors. The matter will be fully investigated by the board, and the Chairperson will contact you in writing within 28 days, outlining how the complaint was investigated, and giving detailed explanations of the outcome. Stage 4 If the matter cannot be resolved to their satisfaction, then parents have the right to raise the matter with The Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED); OFSTED National Business Unit Piccadilly Gate Store Street Manchester M1 2WD Helpline: 0300 1231231 Website: www.ofsted.gov.uk/parents

A record of complaints will be kept in the setting. Parents will be able to access this record if they wish to, however all personal details relating to any complaint will be stored confidentially and will be only accessible by the parties involved. Ofsted will have access to this record at any time during visits to ensure actions have been met appropriately. Data Protection and Confidentiality At Lisle Marsden Childcare we recognise that we hold sensitive/confidential information about children and their families and the staff we employ. This information is used to meet children’s needs, for registers, invoices and emergency contacts. We store all records in a locked cabinet or on the computer with files that are password protected in line with data protection principles. Any information shared with the staff team is done on a ‘need to know’ basis and treated in confidence. This policy will work alongside the Privacy Notice to ensure compliance under General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).

Legal requirements

We follow the legal requirements set out in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) 2017 and accompanying regulations about the information we must hold about registered children and their families and the staff working at the setting

We follow the requirements of the General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) and the Freedom of Information Act 2000 with regard to the storage of data and access to it.

Procedures

It is our intention to respect the privacy of children and their families and we do so by:

Storing confidential records in a locked filing cabinet or on the computer with files that are password protected

Ensuring staff, student and volunteer inductions include an awareness of the importance of confidentiality and that information about the child and family is not shared outside of the setting other than with relevant professionals who need to know that information. It is not shared with friends and family, discussions on the bus or at the local bar. If staff breach any confidentiality provisions, this may result in disciplinary action and, in serious cases, dismissal. Students on placement in the setting are advised of our confidentiality policy and required to respect it

Ensuring that all staff, volunteers and students are aware that this information is confidential and only for use within the setting and to support the child’s best interests with parental permission

Ensuring that parents have access to files and records of their own children but not to those of any other child, other than where relevant professionals such as the police or local authority children’s social care team decide this is not in the child’s best interest

Ensuring all staff are aware that this information is confidential and only for use within the setting. If any of this information is requested for whatever reason, the parent’s permission will always be sought other than in the circumstances above

Ensuring staff do not discuss personal information given by parents with other members of staff, except where it affects planning for the child's needs

Ensuring staff, students and volunteers are aware of and follow our social networking policy in relation to confidentiality

Ensuring issues concerning the employment of staff remain confidential to the people directly involved with making personnel decisions

Ensuring any concerns/evidence relating to a child's personal safety are kept in a secure, confidential file and are shared with as few people as possible on a ‘need-to-know’ basis. If, however, a child is considered at risk, our safeguarding/child protection policy will override confidentiality.

All the undertakings above are subject to the paramount commitment of the setting, which is to the safety and well-being of the child. General Data Protection Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) compliance In order to meet our requirements under GDPR we will also undertake the following:

Privacy Notice Under Data Protection Law, individuals have the right to be informed about how Lisle Marsden Childcare uses any personal data that we hold about them. We comply with this right by providing ‘privacy notices’ to individuals where we are processing their personal data. This privacy notice explains how we collect, store and use personal information about children and their families. We, Lisle Marsden Childcare, are the data controller of the personal information you provide to us. This means the setting determines the purposes for which, and the manner in which, any personal data relating to children and their families is to be processed. Teresa Spencer is the data protection officer. Her role is to oversee and monitor the setting’s data protection procedures and to ensure they are compliant with GDPR. The data protection officer can be contacted on 01472 311019. In some cases, your data will be outsourced to a third party processor; however, this will only be done with your consent, unless the law requires the setting to share your data. Where the setting outsources data to a third party processor, the same data protection standards that Lisle Marsden Childcare upholds are imposed on the processor. Why do we collect and use your information?
