Welcome to Katy Dusters Houston’s Premier Youth Shooting Sports Team

Katy Dusters is Houston’s premier youth shooting sports team founded and run by parent volunteers. We compete in multiple organizations such as the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP), Texas 4-H, National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA), and National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA). Our coaches are volunteers who love the shooting sports. Most are parents, some of whom their children have moved on from the program. Our coaches are knowledgeable and certified in coaching.

Katy Dusters has a Board of volunteers who provide guidance on behalf of the team. Most decisions, however, are run through parent and athlete meetings. We all take part in the direction and decisions regarding team things.

SCTP – Scholastic Clay Target Program The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is the leader in youth development shooting sports programs. Through education and athletics, and a variety of fun, team-based shooting tournaments, SSSF works to enhance the growth and personal development of student athletes throughout the nation.

Our season begins on 9/1, and we shoot year round. Athletes are free to engage as much or as little as they like, but we strongly recommend participation in SCTP events… that’s where the most fun is!

Katy Dusters In-House Tournaments These “In-House” tournaments are designed to help our younger and less experienced athletes learn how tournaments run as well as gain confidence in preparation for SCTP tournaments. These happen during practice times and are treated with the same intensity as tournaments. Estimated cost per athlete: 100+ rounds of ammo.

Houston Area SCTP Tournaments These are our main team events. All athletes who qualify are expected to participate. Events typically run from 9 am until 5 pm, with opportunities for lunch. Estimated cost per athlete: $100 per tournament, 200+ rounds of ammo.

Mondays – Skeet Monday evenings, 5 – 6 pm.

Seasonal Skeet leagues available as well.

Skill: Intermediate, Advanced.

Location: Hot Wells Shooting Range (Cypress).

Cost: $5 per round (25 shots) payable after practice. Typical practice is 2 rounds ($10). Katy Dusters discount = 45%.

Thursdays – Sporting Clays, Skeet, 5-Stand, Trap, Skeet Thursday evenings, 4:45 – 6 pm.

Skill: Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced

Location: American Shooting Centers (Houston)

Cost: $0.35 cents per target. Typical practice is 50 targets (roughly $15-20). Range fees: $6 per round of 25.

Sundays – Sporting Clays & Miscellaneous Sunday afternoons, 3 – 5 pm.

Skill: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced.

Location: Westside Sporting Grounds (Katy)

Cost: $0.30 per target. Typical practice is 50 targets (roughly $10-15). Katy Dusters discount = no membership fees during practice.

Sundays – Sporting Clays & Miscellaneous Sunday afternoons, 2 – 4 pm.

Skill: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced.

Location: Greater Houston Sports Club (Houston)

Cost: $0.30 per target for Sporting and/or $5 per round for Skeet/Trap. Typical practice is 50 targets (roughly $10-15). Katy Dusters discount = no membership fees during practice.

Other Times and Occasions… Coaches will schedule additional practices as demand and availability of athletes and

coaches changes.

League opportunities abound, and some locations will offer discounts for Katy Dusters. Look for notices from coaches.

To Join Katy Dusters…

First Family Athlete Fee $125 This fee includes charges for ONE athlete joining the team…

Late Entry Proration: Our official year starts September 1, so Family Fee for First Family Athlete will be

prorated based on quarter of entry: o 9/1 – 11/30 $100 o 12/1 – 2/28 $80 o 3/1 – 5/31 $60 o 6/1 – 8/31 $40

Jerseys are REQUIRED! Every athlete is required to wear a Katy Dusters jersey at our team events. You

can expect to pay around $50 per jersey.
