FAQ’s for Employment
Qualifications
For a position as an Oral English Teacher, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or science (BS) degree is a prerequisite with either the following TEFL, TESOL, Cambridge UCLES CELTA certificates. Teaching experience is preferred but not required.Regular Class teachers need an Early Childhood degree/QKT and be a registered teacher in Hong Kong.
Interview Process
The interview process usually follows in 3 steps. The 1st interview is a phone interview that might include a live web cam either through Skype or MSN.The 2nd interview process is conducted at the main office in Hong Kong, and 3rd interview is usually with the principle of the appointed school.
Visa Procedure
You will need to apply for and obtain a work visa prior to your departure. HKEDU will assist you in your visa application process.
Pre-Departure Preparations
1. Get your mindset prepared for coping with culture shock and language barriers, you will find it easier to smooth things out while away from home.
2. Check the validity of your current passport and apply for a renewal if necessary. You must have a valid passport for the entire duration of your contract. You should obtain a valid passport two months prior to departure to allow time for visa applications.
3. Prepare all legal authentication or apostille authentication of your documents, including criminal background checks, University degree’s and reference letters.
4. Schedule a physical exam for 2-3 months prior to departure. Hong Kong as no required immunizations but to be extra safe while travelling, ask your doctor for recommended immunizations and blood tests, as well as prescriptions for any special medication you will need to take with you.

5. Be prepared to have a budget until you receive your first pay at the end of the month.
Medical and Employment Insurance
When traveling and living overseas, it is always safer to have your own private health insurance plan. We suggest that you purchase a health insurance plan with coverage for the duration of your contract.When you begin your employment in Hong Kong, you are considered a resident “Eligible Persons” and are entitled to the government’s health plan under the Hospital Authority. Holidays
There is a total of 32 days of paid holidays during Christmas, Chinese New Year and Easter.
Our Support
We provide our teachers with ongoing consultation and support. Airport pick up when they first arrive in Hong Kong and assistance during their stay including orientation and training so that teachers will be more familiar with their surroundings and be prepared for classroom teaching.
Housing
Shared accommodation is provided with club house facilities such as swimming pool, gym, bowling centre, internet, karaoke etc. You will have your own room, but will share common areas such as the kitchen, living room, bathroom, and laundry facilities.
The other option is a housing allowance.
