Mrs. Coates

I have previously worked with the Title/EIP students at Chestatee where my reading and ESOL endorsement has helped me provide students with their academic needs. I have taught 3rd grade, 5th grade and pre-school at a private school. I received my Master's Degree from Brenau and have a specialist Degree from Piedmont College.

This is my 14th year working as a K instructional assistant at Chestatee. I also work with 1st grade teaching our Cindy Cupp reading curriculum. I graduated from Marshall University in Huntington, WV with a degree in laboratory medicine, but have discovered that I have a love for teaching children and have made a career change!

What About Lunch?

Our lunch time is 10:51-11-21. We sit at table 15, side A. A child’s lunch costs $2.15 and that includes the drink. An adult’s lunch costs $3.25. Families can pay by check, cash, or online. Lunch money sent in

should be marked and put in your child’s folder. A red apple stamp on your child’s hand signifies that more lunch

money is needed for your child’s account. If you are joining us for lunch, please meet us in the cafeteria

rather than the classroom. Also say good-bye in the lunchroom, so that we can get to specials.

Your child may purchase an ice cream on Fridays for $0.75.

How Has Kindergarten Changed Since We Attended?

Kindergarten is very academic. We follow the state standards for our

instruction. Teaching is taught in small, differentiated

groups during the majority of our day. Instruction is assessment driven. Kindergarteners are amazing and can learn so

much!

Page 17: Welcome to Curriculum Night! Mrs. Coates and Mrs. Wrights Kindergarten Class 2011 - 2012

What Do We Think About K So Far?

Teaching kindergarten is the hardest grade to teach because the children are being introduced to so many new things, it’s physically exhausting, and I’m “on” all day.

The children are super sweet and love the simplest things about school.

We get tired and hungry by 2:15 which can cause tears. A lot of extra help is needed…. Especially in places like the

cafeteria. Chaos occurs when adults stop in, the phone rings, or the

teacher’s attention is turned to something else for a split second. Teaching kindergarten is the most fun grade to teach.

In Closing…..

We look forward to a great year. We work very hard to keep you informed and to teach your child the way we would want someone to teach our own child. Let us know whenever you have questions or concerns. Thank you for allowing us to work with your child! What a journey this will be!
