• We will continue using the Journeys anthology as well as novel studies.

• Students will have access to differentiated materials.

• Students will have the opportunity to read independently, in small groups and with the teacher.

• Teachers may also choose to share Read-Alouds

Students will write narratives, informational pieces, and formulate and defend opinions.

Students will go through the writing process to include brainstorming, creating a rough draft, revising, editing and publishing.

Additionally, students may complete research projects throughout the year.

We will be following a writing workshop model and utilize six traits to improve students performance. Content, organization, voice, conventions, sentence fluency, and word choice.

Spelling words will be sent home each Friday

These words will follow a phonemic pattern.

Spelling test will be given every other week.

Spellingcity.com will be available for practice at home. Link available on the class website.

Grades are available through eschools parent access center. Student codes are required for access. Go to the Fulton County website for access information. Codes can be obtained in the hall.

• 40% Tests, Performance Assessments, In-school Projects, End of Unit Writing

• 30%  Quizzes, At-home Projects, Oral Presentations

• 20% Classwork

• Homework will count for 10% of an overall academic grade. Grades will be assigned for completion. Missing assignments must be made up.

Grading System, Report Cards, & Weights

Report cards are sent home every nine weeks and progress reports come home three times per year.

Transportation changes should be sent on the day of the change. Please do not send it in advance as it can easily be misplaced.

A sick note or an official doctor’s note -must be turned in within three days of the student’s absence. This may be sent via email.

Homework requests and transportation changes may NOT be sent via email. (networks may be down, teachers may be absent, etc.)

Homework requests must be made by calling the front desk by 9am and arrangements made to pick it up after three. Missing work may be sent home with a sibling or neighbor too.

Homework is given 4 nights a week Mon – Thurs.

Homework Suggestions

Please provide a quiet area free from distractions for your child to complete homework.

Instill responsibility in your child with their binder and agenda.

Homework is written every morning on the board and the bin is checked daily.

Volunteer TrainingParents must complete Creek View’s

Volunteer Training before helping in the classroom.

Volunteer Training is now available online through Fulton County Schools website.

Each volunteer must also complete a background check and online video before volunteering or reading in the classroom
