Welcome to Bergs slussar, one of the major attractions along the Göta Canal thanks to the amazing Carl Johan flight of locks located here! Carl Johan is the longest lock staircase along the canal with its 7 connected locks, and raises or lowers boats a full 18.8 meters between Lake Roxen and the Berg Guest Harbour. Summer-time, visitors come here to watch boats in the canal and to enjoy nice meals or an ice cream. Welcome! Rent-a-bike! A splendid way to explore the Göta Canal is by bike. Rental bicycles are available at the Tourist Information office in Berg at 200 SEK/day. The 20 km stretch between Berg and Borensberg is one of the best to explore since there are so many attractions along the canal to discover! The Cloetta chocolate shop, Ljungs slott (castle from the 18th century), Brunneby Musteri and last but not least, magnificent views. Discover the fascinating history of the Göta Canal! Discover the story behind the Göta Canal and visit the Göta Canal outdoor and indoor exhibitions! The indoor exhibition is located just around the corner from the Tourist Information in Berg and has the same opening hours. Welcome to stay the night! Enjoying the viewsThere are several restaurants and cafés in the area offering great views of the canal! Enjoy a tasty meal or ice cream at Kanalkrogen Delimo and Fröken Jennys Café och Restaurang. For lighter meals and ice cream, Götas Café and Bergs Glassbod are perfect places to go!

Shopping and handicraftYou can shop for groceries at the ICA shop lo-cated just north of the canal in Berg. Gift shops in the area include Häxans hörna and Skattkam-maren. Help us help the environment! There is a recycling site for glass, plastics and paper at Vreta kloster. The recycling map symbol shows the exact location. Thank you for helping us care! ParkingIf you have arrived by car, make sure to park your car facing the wooden planks. Payment only by credit cards VISA and Mastercard. Along the Göta CanalBergs slussar are fantastic, and so is the stretch between Berg and Borensberg. Hike or rent a bicycle and enjoy a quiet ride along by the glittering water of the canal. Let your first stop be the Cloetta chocolate shop in Ljungsbro, and be sure to stock up with goodies for the trip. Further on in the area of Ljung, there is both the 1700s castle, Ljung Manor and lovely bathing, perfect for a cooling dip! If you follow the canal onwards you will eventually come to Brunneby Cider Mill immediately before Borensberg. Here you can take the opportunity to stock up with local produce such as marmalade and fruit juice, but also to enjoy a genuinely good home-cooked daily lunch. Happy travels!

ake an excursion to the countryside southwest of Bergs slussar (eller Berg locks) and the area “Väster om Stan”, packed with rural charm and local crafts. In the lush countryside you can enjoy new-baked sourdough bread at Boställets Ve-dugnsbageri wood-fired bakery, experience items of nostalgia and summer theatre at Kornettgården Museum. Fun things can be found at Bländebo Flea Market, ceramics at Ledberg’s Krukmakeri pottery and production over an open fire can be viewed at Hagdahls smithy. Enjoy newly brewed coffee and rustic décor at Hantverksgården shop and studio, and at Rökinge Gård greenhouse you can buy freshly harvested tomatoes, vegetables and plants! If you want to stay overnight, Stenholmen offers rural accommodation, surrounded by beautiful countryside and horse grazing pastures. Moreover, there is a wonderful outdoor pool and jacuzzi with views over the fields and the option to go for a horsebackriding tour!

Stay overnight!In the area there are many different accommoda-tion options. Campervan overnight parking is available at Bergs slussar, at Vreta Kloster Golf Club, as well as by the canal near Ljung. Cabins are for rent at Bergs slussar, at Vreta Kloster Golf Club and at Sandviks Camping. There is also the option of overnight accommodation at cosy B&Bs and hostels. Bergs Slussar Vandrarhem, Freja Hostel or Kullagården, Stenholmen and Södra Lund B&Bs.

Cool down with a dip!There are several lovely bathing spots in Berg and the surroundings. The beach in Berg, lake Ljungsjön and the long sandy beach at Sandvik Camping are some of them.

Culture and NatureTake the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent nature and cultural memories around Bergs slussar! A great cycle and hiking path follows the Göta Canal along the 20 km stretch to Borensberg, a perfect day trip! Adjacent to Stjärnorp castle ruins, north of Berg on the way to Sandviks Camping is the seclud-ed but completely magical Stjärnorpsravinen hiking trail. Hike through lush exotic nature wrapped in deciduous forest and ferns in one of Östergötland’s richest bat locations! The trail is approximately 2 km long over medium difficult terrain and starts below Stjärnorp castle ruins.

A must-see right outside of Berg, is the medi-eval Vreta Kloster church, one of Sweden’s most interesting churches of the middle ages, erected in the 1100s. Adjacent to the church are the ruins of Sweden’s oldest convent which was founded in the beginning of the 1100s. Today there are guided tours on offer here and also a visitor centre. Come and feel the wing-beats of history!
