Welcome to 3rd Grade
Curriculum Night
Mrs. Hooton & Mrs. Patrick
All About Me!
● This is my 15th year of teaching.
● I am from Flower Mound and currently reside there with my husband, Ryan
and son, Cooper. Cooper is 5 years old.
● I graduated from University of North Texas.
● I enjoy spending time with my family and reading.

● I live in Fort Worth with my husband, Matt, and our fur
baby Napoleon.
● I have a wonderful 13 year old bonus daughter named
Peyton.
● I graduated from UNT.
● I enjoy baking, spending time with my family, and reading.
Goals★To give your children the academic and social skills
needed to progress to fourth grade.
★To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment.
★To establish an open line of communication through personal conversations, email, phone calls, notes, etc. regarding your child’s progress in the classroom.

Writing
➔One of our goals in writing is to get thoughts and
ideas on paper. In this process age-appropriate
mistakes will be made, both in spelling and
grammar. That is all part of the learning process.
➔Our goal is for students to legibly be able to write a
full page essay by the end of the year.
➔Students will be writing personal narratives,
expository papers and a how to piece.
Math- Students need to not only be able to complete computations,
but be able to solve mixed operations and in problem solving
form.
- You can help your child at home by:
❏ Using real world math with them (ex. money, time, counting,
weather, temperature, adding and subtracting when at the
store, etc.)
❏ Practicing multiplication facts so that students can quickly recall
them.
❏ Math practice/homework will be sent home based on individual
needs.

Social Studies
Our units are project based and require student
investigation. They will be reading to learn as well as
applying their learning through these projects.

Snacks
We have one or more students with severe food allergies. Please send in your child’s
snack with their name on it. We will be eating snack in the cafeteria after Specials.
Classroom CommunityOur classroom is a community. In our community, we have guidelines and rules to help us get along with
each other.

Behavior★ Our belief at Blanton is a positive approach to discipline.
We strive to TEACH students how to behave properly.
★ One of our goals is to clearly communicate expectations,
rules and consequences to students and parents.
★ Student motivation includes, but not limited to:
○ Individual rewards (tickets)
○ Classroom rewards (Brag Tags)
○ School-wide recognition – Noble Knight Awards
Homework
Homework will be given on a very limited, as
needed basis this year.
However, please help us ensure that your
child is reading for at least 20 minutes each
night, and is working on math fact fluency
each night.
Transportation
➔ Arrival will take in the front of the building. Please stay in one lane.
➔ Pick up after school must take place in the back of the school.
➔ Call the front office for changes or you can send in a handwritten note.
➔ If a note or call has not been made, expect your child to go home their
“normal” way.
STAAR Test
★ Students will be taking the STAAR test on
May 14 (math) and May 15 (reading).
★More information will be coming your way.
Attendance
❏School starts at 7:40 A.M.
❏ If students aren’t in the classroom by the time the bell rings, they will need to check in at the school office before coming to class.
➔We celebrate birthdays in the cafeteria at lunchtime. Email
your teacher to let them know you will be bringing in a
birthday treat.
➔ Please feel free to send in a store bought treat.
➔ If you send in a cookie cake, please make sure it is cut
prior to bringing it to school.
