• Read a variety of texts in different settings• Respond to texts in different ways• Use conversational and literary language to

*To achieve these goals, we will use the following, but are not limited to: Daily 5 resources, big books, decodable books, journals, word wall, Common Core State Standards, and each other !

To achieve these goals we will use the following, but are not limited to: graphs, observation, Macmillan McGraw-Hill Science resources, and each other !

• Analyze how individuals, families, and groups are similar and different

• Identify and exhibit qualities of good citizenship in the classroom, school, and other social environments

• Recognize and understand the concept of change in various settings

• Explain different celebrated holidays and special days in communities

• Express geographic concepts in real life situations• Apply basic economic concepts to home, school, and

the community• Recognize how technology is used at home, school, and

in the community

To achieve these goals we will use the following, but are not limited to: books, character education, maps, Nystrom Resources, and each other !

• Write and/or participate in writing by using an author's model of language and extending the model

• Compose a variety of products (e.g., narrative/informative/opinion stories, journal entries, letters, response logs, simple poems, oral retellings) using a writing process

• Apply phonics to write independently, using temporary and/or conventional spelling

• Write all upper and lower case letters of the alphabet, using correct letter formation

• Use complete sentences to write simple texts• Use basic capitalization and punctuation: first word in a

sentence, proper names, period to end declarative sentence, question mark to end interrogative sentence

• Self-monitor composition by using one or two strategies (e.g., rereading, peer conferences)

• Use legible manuscript handwriting

To achieve these goals we will use the following, but are not limited to: journals, Daily 5 resources, writing prompts, word wall, poetry, computers, spelling activities, and each other !

Red homework folder containing both Math and Word Work Homework

Total of 8 Activities to choose from-1 required, 3 additional-TURN IN EACH WEEK

Receive new word lists on Monday and will have until Friday to complete at least 4 of the activities

Leave ALL ASSIGNMENTS IN NOTEBOOK! Send the homework folder back to school

every Friday! Please DO NOT remove the Word Work

contract or the Math Homework Calendar from the folder-Thank you!

Assignment Choices:

*Required Assignment: Choose 5 words from your list and write a sentence for each of the words you chose.Choose an additional 3 activities from the list below:•Look up at least 5 words in a dictionary and write the definition of each word.•Write each word 5 times.•Write a story using at least 8 of your spelling words and underline the spelling words in your story.•Put all of your words in alphabetical order (ABC order).•Write the bonus words using one, two or three full sentences.•Using your “leftover” 5 words, write a sentence or story including each of the words.•Categorize your words! (Ex: long vowel vs. short vowels, nouns, verbs, adjectives, rhyming, etc!)

Receive a calendar at the beginning of each month

Students will have until Thursday night each week to complete activities

Please be sure that all activities are returned on FRIDAY in homework notebook!

*Note-Occasionally there will be homework from the Investigations curriculum and will need to be completed and returned by Friday!

Planners will be used as a form of communication between school and home

Please make sure you are initialing the behavior in the planner daily and checking the back pocket daily for additional information

If you have something to send to school, please place it in the back pocket of the planner (notes, money, etc.)

Please write the book title that you read with your child each night! (Note-Mustangs will be lost if signature/book title is not completed!)

Behavior Plan

Our Classroom Rules

1. Show respect for all adults, classmates, and property. This includes listening to one another and following directions.2. Demonstrate self-control. This includes working independently as well as with others, sharing materials, and keeping our hands and feet to ourselves.3. Use our manners and kind words.4. Take responsibility for what we say and do. 5. HAVE FUN and DO YOUR BEST!

All students will begin their day on the “blue” bear happy face! If a student chooses not to follow a rule, the consequences will be consistent as follows:

1st time: A verbal warning will be given.2nd time: Spend the remainder of the activity isolated from the

rest of the group (move clip to “green”)3rd time: Lose 5-10 minutes of free-choice activity (move clip to

“yellow”)4th time: Mustang Mistake (move clip to “red” and must take

home a mustang mistake report from the teacher)

*Note: Severe behavior (violence, etc.): Principal will be notified immediately without benefit of the other steps and parents will be contacted.

couple warnings! :( Yellow= Not So Good Day…Made Multiple Poor

First Graders will begin BYOT by the beginning of the SECOND QUARTER!

Secured in tubs! Brought to scho0l on a non “BYOT” day… Please refer to the BYOT agreement in your table

for additional information! Additional iPads available at LC to borrow!

Renaissance Place is the program we are using for AR this year

Information is located inside the student planners (additional information will also be sent home with user names and passwords once received)

Your child will take an AR test after reading an AR book and are comfortable enough to take it

All AR information will be kept in the front part of their planner

• Please check the “Welcome Packet” for more general information about First Grade!

• Don’t forget to take the additional forms located on the back table and have them sent to school by THIS MONDAY!

• Please fill out how you child will be getting home this year (ESPECIALLY ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL) on the transportation paper located on the table by the door!
