Gathering around God’s Word

Welcome and Announcements

Prelude

Call to Worship We gather as varied people from varied places — new followers and lifelong disciples, the

powerful and the powerless, those who have too little and those who have too much.

We have gathered, for we are one in Christ.

We arrive— seekers and skeptics, sinners and saints, the poor in spirit and the rich in

faith.

We have come, for we are eager to hear God’s word.

We are here, bound together in Christ.

Let us glorify the one true God.

Opening Prayer Lisa Patterson

*Hymn 233 The Day of Resurrection LANCASHIRE

Prayer of Confession

Holy and merciful God, in your presence we confess our sinfulness, our shortcomings,

and our offenses against you. You alone know how often we have sinned in wandering

from your ways, in wasting your gifts, in forgetting your love. Have mercy on us, O

Lord, for we are ashamed and sorry for all we have done to displease you. Forgive our

sins, and help us to live in your light, and walk in your ways, for the sake of Jesus

Christ our Savior. In his name we pray. Amen. (time of silent confession).

Declaration of Pardon Friends, believe the good news of the Gospel.

In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God!

Call to Faithfulness (Colossians 3: 12-15) As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness,

humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint

against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must

forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in

perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you

were called in the one body. And be thankful.

*Sung Response Refrain of hymn 238, Thine Is the Glory Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son; endless is the victory thou o'er death hast

won.

Vacation Bible School Registration Is Live!

June 15-20, 2020, each morning at 9:00 am, St. Andrew’s VBS will be live on Zoom.

Story and music for about 30-45 minutes, take a short break, and then Miss Sue will come

back on live via Zoom with the preschoolers to finish with crafts and “Time with Miss Sue.”

Elementary-aged children will be able to then immediately access or wait until later in the

day or week to view pre-recorded class sessions of Science, Art, and Recreation.

Youth will do instructional videos on how to make the snack of the day for children to fol-

low.

The schedule will continue in this manner for the week, and ALL sessions will be recorded

and available for viewing throughout the summer. The videos will be posted on the St. An-

drew website, including the live Zoom sessions on June 15-19.

Supply Packets will be available for pick-up on Friday, June 12 or we will make porch de-

liveries. We will keep you updated on details.

Children’s Ministry and the VBS Committee are working hard to make this year’s gathering

exciting, accessible, faithful to the Bible stories, and a way for us to stay connected while

apart. We hope you will join us! Questions? Ask Amy Cole, VBS Director, at

[email protected]. Register at standrewdenton.com/vbs-registration.

VBS Mission

Pack the Denton Community Food Bank!

During the week of June 15-19, we will collect food to help pack the Denton Community Food

Bank. It is one of our faithful mission partners, and it is asking for additional food to address

the staggering increase in need. Lines are long and supplies are limited at the Food Bank.

St. Andrew drivers will make porch pickups of donated food during the week of VBS at ad-

vertised blocks of time. You will be able to email, text, or call to let us know you have food for

us to pick up, and we will take the church vans out into the city to pick up needed food. We

want to let you know early so that you can add to your grocery list. Also, online donations

may be made remembering that $2.29 donated to the food center can feed one person for an

entire week. Let’s pack the food bank for our community!

First Scripture Lesson Psalm 8

1 O Lord, our Sovereign,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants

you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,

to silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars that you have established; 4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them,

mortals that you care for them?

5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God,

and crowned them with glory and honor. 6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;

you have put all things under their feet, 7 all sheep and oxen,

and also the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,

whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord, our Sovereign,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God!

Second Scripture Lesson Matthew 28: 16-20 16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed

them. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came

and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go

therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and

of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have

commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

rightly worship and embrace God by true faith in Christ Jesus, who is the only Head

Puppet Ministry on Wednesday Nights for Children!

At 6:30pm on Wednesday nights, children now will explore important topics and questions of

faith with Kirsten Trachsel and her special friend, Kenny, the puppet. This past Wednesday

night they talked to the children about masks focusing on dispelling fears and giving children

the opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts and feelings. The discussion was

appropriate for all ages. The children showed each other their masks that they wear outside

the home. Next week Kirsten and Kenny will discuss ideas for having fun and learning off-

screen, since so much of our time is spent online these days.

This text formed a very small part of an elaborate Christian missionary pageant in the early 20th century, yet it has endured while the grander aspects of that production have faded away. It is set to a simple 19th-century tune that does not get in the way of its message.

Proclaiming God’s Word

Prayer for Illumination Chris Curcuruto

First Scripture Lesson Psalm 8

1 O Lord, our Sovereign,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouths of babes and infants

you have founded a bulwark because of your foes,

to silence the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,

the moon and the stars that you have established; 4 what are human beings that you are mindful of them,

mortals that you care for them?

5 Yet you have made them a little lower than God,

and crowned them with glory and honor. 6 You have given them dominion over the works of your hands;

you have put all things under their feet, 7 all sheep and oxen,

and also the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea,

whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

9 O Lord, our Sovereign,

how majestic is your name in all the earth!

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God!

Time with Young Disciples

The Word of the Lord.

Thanks be to God!

Responding to God’s Word

*Hymn 298 Lord, You Give the Great Commission ABBOT'S LEIGH

*Affirmation of Faith (unison) (The Scots’ Confession, Book of Order, 3.16) As we believe in one God, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, so we firmly believe that

from the beginning there has been, now is, and to the end of the world shall be, one

Kirk, that is to say, one company and multitude of people chosen by God, who

rightly worship and embrace God by true faith in Christ Jesus, who is the only Head

of the Kirk, even as it is the body and spouse of Christ Jesus. This Kirk is catholic,

that is, universal, because it contains the chosen of all ages, of all realms, nations,

and tongues, be they of the Jews or be they of the Gentiles, who have communion

and society with God the Creator, and with his Son, Christ Jesus, through the

sanctification of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayers of the People and the Lord’s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be

done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our

debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from

evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hand Sewn Masks Needed for Members of St. Andrew!
