O UR D OLLA RS AT W ORK:

W HY WE PLEDGE

Did you know: Every week, our pledge dollars fund a wide range of ministries, people, and projects. In years past, we’ve heard testimonials from parishioners who explained why giving to Holy Comforter mattered to them during the Annual Pledge Campaign. We love these stories and want to share these beautiful thoughts! Here is part of what Anna Leigh and Arnoldo Marquez said:

Holy Comforter has always been a place of comfort, opportunity, satisfaction, gratification, and love. My wife, Anna Leigh, and I moved to Charlotte back in February 2009 and found at Holy Comforter what everyone finds – a Church that welcomes everyone... We also found the opportunity to be part of something much bigger than ourselves through many old and new ministries…During that time Hispanic Ministries was ramping up, and before we knew it, we were fully emerged in the culture of this wonderful place through participation in many other ministries. For almost 3 years, I have had the privilege of serving on the Vestry; this opportunity has allowed me to understand, on a deeper level, what it takes to make this place work. It takes everyone as a whole to lift this place into what God had called us to do. The many inreach and outreach opportunities that are available in our community can only be possible with the help of those who provide time, a helping hand, and financial support. This past year the AGC committee and the Vestry were moved by the way in which our parish stepped up to the challenge of bringing us closer to closing the gap in our budget; however, the battle is not over yet. We must continue providing our support to Holy Comforter so that the strength and renewal we find here presently can flourish for posterity.

How can you help? When the 2018 Annual Pledge Commitment kicks off, prayerfully consider your pledge; in the meantime, continue to keep your 2017 pledge current. Need to make your 2017 pledge? Contact Holly Williams in the office.

Come hungry this Sunday, August 13, as we hold a delicious fundraiser to help offset Kanuga expenses. On the menu are eggs Florentine, French toast with Nutella and bananas, scrambled eggs, waffles, and much, more! Brunch will be held after the 10:30 a.m. service and before La Misa. The cost is $5 per person or $20 per family, and all donations are greatly appreciated.

Help us assist our new director of Youth & Children’s Ministries Sarah Cavins, by updating our records. Please let us know what grade your child will be in this fall (or when they are anticipating graduating from high school). This will allow Sarah to have an accurate listing of grades for all our young scholars. Please email Jessica ([email protected]) so she can update our record. Also, the most recent youth new letter went out last week, so if your youth (6th grade and older) or you as a youth parent did not receive it, please let Jessica know to be added to our youth email list.

We welcome a familiar face behind the organ, Frank Archer, this Sunday and next as he substitutes for Patrick Pope, who is in England accompanying the choir from St. Peter’s as they perform at St. Alban’s Cathedral. Musical Opportunities at Holy Comforter this Fall: As the end of summer begins to appear on the horizon, that means it's a great time to consider becoming part of the Holy Comforter music ministry for the upcoming program year. Opportunities for children and adults include: Boys and Girls Choir (rising 2nd-6th graders in two separate choirs; weekly rehearsals on Tuesdays); the Holy Comforter Choir (adults, open to all ages, no audition required; weekly rehearsals on Wednesdays); and the potential for re-organizing the Holy Comforter Handbell Choir (rehearsal schedule TBD). If you play an instrument and would like to play during worship, opportunities may also be available. More information about schedules will be available in the coming weeks. For any questions, ideas, or comments, please contact Patrick Pope in the church office.

Acolyte Training August 27: With Father Kevin and Nancy Johnson (meet in the library) New acolytes 3:30 p.m. - 4p.m. (parents welcome) New and Returning acolytes 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. Contact [email protected] There are only 2 altar flower dates remaining in 2017: Sept. 3 and Dec. 24 (Fourth Sunday of Advent services only).
