Policy 7 Policy Governing Approval of Multi-School Athletic Events

•IS REQUIRED for any Cross Country Meet hosted by an FHSAA member senior high school which involves more than Four (4) teams, or a meet which is held to determine the champion of a city, county, conference or league. Special Events also require sanctioning.

•Approval is NOT REQUIRED for multi-team regular season events, such as tri-meets and quad-meets; for any regular season event in a recognized sport or for any event hosted by a member middle school or junior high school.

• New Season Dates: Cross Country season was moved to start and end one week later then previous year. – New Start date well be September 1st and Finals

will be held on November 15th.

COMMITMENT TO PARTICIPATETeam Entries: Schools must file a declaration of intent to participate in the state series with the FHSAA Office by the specified deadline.

Application: Schools doing so are eligible to participate in the state series without having to “sit out” a year.

COURSE PREPARATION

•Proper course Markers– Accurate course maps for

coaches and athletes

•Markers should be six (6) Feet above the ground and visible for 100ft as runners approach.

•Turns should be marked with either paint or flagging•3ft wide at it’s narrowest point•Clear of both ground obstructions & overhead objects (no lower than 8ft.)

AUTOMATIC EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATORS (AED’s)

•The presence and availability of an automatic external defibrillator is mandatory at the site of every FHSAA state championship series contest on the district, regional, and state levels.

REPORTING RESULTSDistrict & Regional

Schools hosting state series events are required submit results electronically. These results must be submitted electronically using Hy-Tek Meet Manager for Windows software.

Results must be submitted within 24 hours of the meet’s conclusion.

FHSAA 3.5.2.1.1 - NFHS 9-5-1

•A varsity level cross country team must be composed of five (5) to seven (7) runners. A cross country team on the junior varsity level or below may be allowed an unlimited number of runners unless otherwise restricted by the meet director. However, only the first seven (7) runners on each team may enter into scoring.

•During the regular season (non-state series), meet directors/managers will have the option to allow up to 10 runners in a varsity race. Any team member beyond 7 shall be disregarded and shall not displace any opposing runner.  

•Boys and girls must run separately.

• District Meet to Regional Meet. The first three (3) placing teams and the top 15 runners in each district meet in which six (6) or less teams

• First four (4) placing teams and the top 15 runners in each district meet in which seven (7) or more teams

• A runner who qualifies in the top 15 and who also is a member of a qualifying team may be replaced in the team lineup [regional meet/FHSAA Finals] by a substitute. – The substitute, however, shall not be eligible for individual honors

on any subsequent level of competition.

A student-athlete who qualifies in a state series meet as an individual is expected to compete on successive levels of the state series unless ill, injured, suspended due to disciplinary action, or for any other reason acceptable to the Executive Director.• Top 15 individuals you must compete on all levels• Not top 15, you may be substituted throughout the

levels
