“I reflect on each day about the things I could have done better. I have come to accept that my trial and errors in the classroom are part of the challenges of a first year teacher.”

“Students know what is expected of them as soon as they walk into my room.”

“My rules and procedures are posted in my room, and were introduced to each class on their first day. I have reviewed and referred to my rules and procedures many times throughout the year, and as needed.”

“I feel like students having input on what the classroom rules should be will make the students following them be a little easier since they agreed, as a class, on them.”

“I’ve had a few of my middle school students come up to me and thank me for sending a note home saying they got a good grade and that their parents were very proud of them. This makes me smile because I know that I have already made a impact on that students life, even if it wasn’t a very big one.”

“If the students know the routine and know what to do and when to do it, then there will be minimal confusion and disruption and maximum learning taking place.”

“Harry Wong writes that, “Students tend to learn as little or as much as their teachers expect,” and I have seen this to be absolutely true. Students who have been told, or treated as if, they are not capable of achieving academic success come into the classroom with an attitude of apathy. I have found that my job often begins with convincing the student that he/she can learn and master the skills necessary to graduate from high school.”

“Creating routines in the classroom and having the students practice these routines has helped me keep students on task and eliminate a lot of wasted time transitioning from one activity to the other.”

“Powerpoint is the enemy of classroom management.”

Page 22: WELCOME Induction Contract Educators Kennedy Middle School November 20, 2013 3:45-5:00 pm

“Effective teachers MANAGE their classrooms. Ineffective teachers DISCIPLINE their classrooms.”
