When we do these projects, we will be mindful of our guests and their comfort by temporarily closing the SON Foundation House for short periods of time. Please pray that we are able to finish the house in the near future.

Fall 2014

Our doors are OPEN! The SON Foundation is open and serving patients and their families! We are so blessed to have guests staying with us and for the ability to serve them.

One of our guests felt led to leave us the following feedback before leaving: “This was totally amazing experience. It was so much better than a hotel or motel. I felt more at home, where we could relax and enjoy staying, even though we are here for an unfortunate reason.”

We currently have the first floor of the SON Foundation House open to our guests. The first floor consists of two bedrooms, two bathrooms, the kitchen, living room, dining room, and resource room. We have already served guests from five different states, with some coming from over 600 miles away. Our guests have stayed anywhere from 3-21 nights.

As we look to the future of the SON Foundation House, we pray for the resources to complete the house in order to serve more people. We have three additional bedrooms and two bathrooms still to renovate on the second floor of the house. We will start these projects as we gain resources. When we do these projects, we will be mindful of our guests and their comfort by temporarily closing the SON Foundation House for short periods of time. Please pray that we are able to finish the house in the near future.

We Need You! If you have a heart to serve, we need your help! The SON Foundation couldn’t

exist without the many volunteers that serve. Will you help us? With the opening of the SON Foundation House, we have several opportunities for people to serve. These opportunities are on a more regular basis and do require some training. Please prayerfully consider being a SON Foundation volunteer. Below are the descriptions of the jobs we need to fill. Please email Denise ([email protected]) if you are interested in serving or if you have any questions.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Interested in Volunteering? Contact Denise: [email protected] or 317.504.9292

Committee Volunteers

Starting in January, we will be looking for volunteers to serve on committees of our Board of Directors. There will be volunteer opportunities of all types and time commitments – short and long term. Experience is not necessary, just a willingness to serve others.

Some of areas we may need help with include:

• Prayer Team • Fundraising • Volunteer Coordination • Special Event Planning • Grant Writing (experience

necessary) • Guest Care & Follow-up • House maintenance • Grounds upkeep

Please let us know if you are interested in being on the list to help with any of these areas. Email [email protected] if you have questions or want more information. Items Needed The following items are ones that we go through quickly at the SON House. If you would like to donate any of the items below, please contact Denise. Thank you!

Toilet Paper Paper Towels Disposable Coffee Cups with lids Keurig K-Cups (any flavor) Batteries (AA, AAA, & 9-Volt)

We are also looking for new or gently used DVDs that are rated G, PG, or PG-13 for our guests to enjoy.

We have a Wish List set up on Amazon.com. Go to the following link to see additional items, or search for SON Foundation under the Wish List tab. http://www.amazon.com/gp/registry/wishlist/?ie=UTF8&cid=A1I817VMPFA14Y

Cleaning Volunteers

“If you wish to know God, you must know his Word. If you wish to perceive His power, you must see how He works by his Word. If you wish to know His purpose before it comes to pass, you can only discover it by His Word.”

-C.H. Spurgeon Life is found in the Word of God.

As Christians living in a “product shows value” world, it is easy to get caught up in the business of service. We seek to glorify God through volunteering at church, cooking meals, and attending never-ending activities. While our service should certainly be an effect of our sanctification, is it the goal of our Christian life?

Oswald Chambers says, “The central point of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ is a personal relationship with Him, not public usefulness to others.” Our Lord longs for an intimate relationship rather than obligatory offerings. What we do behind closed doors is of upmost importance.

How do we build deep intimacy? In the Word of God. Hebrews 4:12 reminds us that, “the Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” The Word of God is different than any other text you will read. It is alive! It speaks to us, challenges us, convicts us, and grows us. The Word of God brings healing. The Word of God rescues us from pits of darkness. The Word of God brings comfort and stills anxieties.

Are you immersing yourself in the Word of God? If we chose to make Bible reading a minimal priority, our intimacy with God will slowly fade. The Word of God reminds us of his unchanging character. As we read verses, memorize verses, and speak it aloud, we fall more in love with our precious Savior.

“Blessed is the one whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—what they do prospers.” (Psalm 1)

Feast on the Word—it is life.
