Good morning!

I hope you’ve had a great week.

Just a few things for today:

Parents, we’ve been studying Colossians on Wednesday nights for the last three weeks and it has been great! We are so thankful for the time that we get to spend in the Word together. Make sure to ask your students what they’ve been learning as we get ready to wrap up this series.

Since schools were closed on Friday, we will have our last prayer breakfast this Friday at 7:00 a.m.! There will be free Chick-Fil-A. Parents, we’d love to have new faces - so if you can bring your student, please do!

That’s all for this week! Tucker

We continue our study of biblical love in action from

1 Corinthians 13:4. A

fter patience, Paul wrote that “love is kind.” To begin, can you think of

a situation or a mom

ent where you recently experienced kindness? D

id you w

itness someone being kind? W

ere you the recipient? What w

as your reaction?

Again, w

e need to consider the motive behind our actions. Paul w

as quite em

phatic about that in the opening verses of this chapter. How

might

someone m

isuse kindness? How

do you know w

hen someone is being

kind, but not out of love?

It is also good to remem

ber God’s kindness tow

ards us. And G

od raised us up w

ith Christ and seated us with him

in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in

order that in the coming ages he m

ight show the incom

parable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:6-7) W

e should all rem

ember that G

od’s kindness is not sentimentality! Consider therefore the

kindness and sternness of God: sternness to those w

ho fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in his kindness. O

therwise, you also w

ill be cut off. (Rom

ans 11:22)

In 1948, the novelist Paul Eldridge published the following statem

ent: “A

man’s character is m

ost evident by how he treats those w

ho are not in a position either to retaliate or reciprocate.” That goes hand in hand w

ith Proverbs 14:31, H

e who oppresses the poor show

s contempt for their M

aker, but w

hoever is kind to the needy honors God.

Kindness is one of those often repeated com

mands. For exam

ple:Ephesians 4:32 ...and be kind and com

passionate to one another... Colossians 3:12 …

clothe yourselves with com

passion, kindness…2 Peter 1:5-7

...add to your faith… brotherly kindness...

Yet, how often are w

e intentional about being kind? Perhaps, we are guilty

of thinking it will just happen. W

hy would kindness not be considered a

serious comm

and? What can w

e do to intentionally grow in kindness?

Close out your devotional tim

e thanking God for H

is kindness toward you and

asking Him

to help you love others by showing kindness.

Before you start: Cut off your devices and screens. G

rab a paper copy of G

od’s Word and turn to 1 Corinthians 13.

Read: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Study: Last year, we looked at A

Guide for Spiritual G

rowth for our H

ome

Devotional topics. Last m

onth, we took a look at Love is patient. This

week, w

e’re going to be focusing on 1 Corinthians 13:4 - Love is kind.

What does that m

ean for us? How

do we realize kindness in our every-

day lives? Jesus demonstrates kindness all throughout H

is ministry and

talks often about it. Read Luke 6:27-31.

Jesus knew the im

portance of how w

e treat people. How

we interact

with people and how

we treat them

is one of the most im

portant sections of our faith. W

hen Jesus is preaching in Luke 6, He’s telling the crow

d how

important it is to treat people w

ith kindness - not just being nice or w

ith good manners…

but with kindness. K

indness is much m

ore than just sm

iling and talking to strangers. Kindness is the idea that w

e choose to bless other people above ourselves. K

indness is not something that is

easy for everyone - but it is a choice that we choose to m

ake.

Kindness is love in action. W

e live out love through the kindness that we

show others. The choice that w

e make in order to put them

before our-selves (just like Jesus did). Spend the next few

minutes discussing som

e of the questions below

and brainstorm together how

you as a family

could be kind to someone in your life this w

eek.

Breakdown:

What is kindness?

Who is som

eone in your life that you can be kind to this week?

What are three practical w

ays you can show kindness this w

eek?Love is K

ind

No m

atter how m

ean Brian was to C

arlos it just didn’t seem to affect him

. Brian alw

ays picked on Carlos at school. H

e would say m

ean things, call him

names and even try to get C

arlos to fight with him

. Carlos never

really knew w

hy Brian was so m

ean. Carlos learned from

the Bible that like Jesus, he w

as supposed to love those who w

ere mean to him

, which

meant he needed to kind. So, every tim

e Brian was m

ean, Carlos just

continued to do something nice in return. H

e was never m

ean back and never said m

ean things about Brian.

What w

as the result? It drove Brian absolutely crazy! Brian kept trying to find new

ways to be m

ean to Carlos. O

ne day Brian threw a paper

airplane in class and the teacher turned around, and it hit the teacher. The teacher im

mediately asked w

ho did it. Brian pointed to Carlos and

said that he was the one w

ho did it. Carlos knew

he had a choice to m

ake. He decided to take the blam

e for Brian.

Brian was am

azed at what C

arlos did for him so after class he w

ent to C

arlos and asked, “Why did you take the blam

e for the paper airplane?” Then C

arlos looked at Brian and said, “Because it is the same thing that

Jesus did for me. W

hen He died on the cross, H

e forgave us of all of our sins. A

nd He did this because H

e loves us.”

Brian didn’t know w

hat to say, but he knew there w

as something different

about Carlos. H

e decided that he wouldn’t pick on C

arlos anymore. In

fact, he thought it was pretty cool w

hat Carlos did for him

. When C

arlos invited Brian to church w

ith him next Sunday, Brian decided to go to

learn about Jesus and why C

arlos was so different.

Tell about a time w

hen someone w

as mean to you? W

ere you mean back

or were you kind and loving? H

ow did Brian know

that Carlos w

as a follow

er of Jesus? How

can you demonstrate the love of Jesus to others?

Preschool - 1st Grade

Have the children draw

a picture of what kindness looks like. Let’s talk about

kindness. What did you draw

on your paper that shows w

hat kindness looks like? A

llow children to explain their draw

ing. God w

ants us to be kind to others. Being kind is one w

ay we can show

love, God’s love.

In the Bible, Jesus meets a m

an that is a sinner, a tax collector, and many

of the people did not like him at all. H

e often seemed unkind, unpleasant,

and unlovable by the people. Let’s read about this man. Read Luke 19:1-

10.

What do you think is the one thing Jesus w

as trying to teach the people w

ith this story? He w

as showing kindness, w

asn’t he? Even though Zacchaeus w

as not liked, he wanted to see w

hat Jesus was all about.

Jesus saw Zacchaeus in the tree, and w

hat did he tell him to do? D

o you think the crow

d was surprised that Jesus ate w

ith Zacchaeus? Jesus w

anted the people to know that kindness changed Zacchaeus’ heart.

Have you ever m

et someone w

ho acted ugly, but you were kind to them

anyw

ay? That is exactly what G

od wants us to do. H

e wants us to be

kind to others no matter w

hat because that’s how w

e show H

is love!

Love is Kind
