Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:8 ESV
It seemed best to change the date of our H
ome D
evotionals this month to
make the m
ost of the family tim
e so many enjoy on Easter. Sm
all Group
Bible Studies will m
eet next week, A
pril 28. Next m
onth, the devotional them
e from 1 C
orinthians 13 will resum
e. Today might provide the perfect
opportunity to gather with others and reflect on the resurrection. If you are
not with fam
ily today, praise God for a tim
e of solitude with H
im. Either
way, everyone is encouraged to spend tim
e reflecting on this incredible event.
Begin in prayer asking God to help you focus on Scripture and for an
open heart to learn, or be reminded of H
is truth. The devotional has three passages to read from
Matthew
28 and questions for each section.
Read M
atthew 28:1-10.
wOn w
hat day of the week did this happen? W
hy is this important?
wWhat w
as the reaction of the wom
en to the angel’s message?
Read M
atthew 28:11-15.
wThe chief priest were told “all that happened,” and yet, along w
ith the elders decided to fabricate a story. W
hy?
wAt the crucifixion there w
as darkness, the curtain was split, the earth
shook, rocks split, and tombs w
ere opened. Then, at the resurrection, there as an earthquake an angel appeared and spoke. H
ow could all this
be ignored?
wMoney w
as used as a motive to convince the guards to repeat a false
explanation instead of acknowledging the facts. W
hat motivates people
not to believe the truth about the resurrection?
Read M
atthew 28:16-20.
wWhat w
as the reaction of the eleven disciples when they saw
Jesus?
wRead again Jesus’ comm
and in verses 18-20. How
often do you intentionally attem
pt to obey this comm
and? Now
read His prom
ise in verse 20. H
ow often are you aw
are of His presence w
ith you?
Close by thanking G
od for raising Jesus from the grave and for being w
ith you!
Before you start: Put away your phones, turn off the screens, and grab a
paper copy of the Bible.
What are som
e of your most fond Easter m
emories grow
ing up?
Today, we’re going to focus on the resurrection of Jesus. O
ne of the best things about Easter is that it points our hearts to celebrate that Jesus w
as w
ho He said H
e was and the hope that H
is resurrection gives.
Notice three things about the resurrection:
• The em
pty tomb is proof.
M
ark 8:31W
hen the soldiers buried Jesus, they thought they had done it once and for all. Jesus told H
is followers that this w
as coming.
They knew H
e had said these things, but it was difficult for them
to believe that Jesus w
ould really rise. It made it all the m
ore convincing w
hen Jesus rose on the third day, though! The empty
tomb is proof that Jesus is w
ho He says H
e is. Jesus is God.
• The em
pty tomb is pow
erful.
Acts 2:24
Jesus has power over death! A
gain, the empty tom
b was proof
that Jesus was real and w
as telling the truth… but the em
pty tomb
shows us H
is power over death and over sin!
• The em
pty tomb is perm
anent.
Romans 6:9
Jesus rose on the third day and will stay risen. D
eath has no hold on Jesus. It cannot hold H
im dow
n. The empty tom
b is permanent
because Jesus is still living! He is still w
orking in our lives every single day. H
e is showing us the w
ay and helping us as we try to
live for him.
Make it real:
In what w
ays are you reminded of the resurrection on Easter?
How
does the resurrection of Jesus give you hope?C
an the resurrection of Jesus still change your life today?Resurrectio

Share a time w
hen you received or delivered good news. Then, allow
your child to share a tim
e when he or she received or delivered good
news.
How
did that make you feel? D
o you get more excited to get good new
s or to share good new
s with som
eone else? Read aloud or have your child read M
ark 16:2-8. What do you think the people felt w
hen Jesus w
as not in the tomb w
here he was buried?
For Christians, Paul tells us that Jesus’ death and resurrection are the
most im
portant things. Read or have your child read 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. If C
hrist had not risen from the dead, w
e would not have hope.
From Jesus rising from
the dead, we are show
n that we can receive
forgiveness for our sins, death is not the end for us, and God w
ants us to live our lives in a w
ay that we live out H
is truth and help build His
kingdom. So, how
can you share this good news? A
llow your child to
share how they w
ould share the good news w
ith someone.
Close w
ith 1 Peter 1:3.
Preschool - 1st Grade
For the devotional, you will need tw
o sheets of paper. Write “G
od” on one of sheet of paper and “People” on the other, then place the tw
o pieces of paper close to one another on the floor. H
ave your child stand on the “People” paper. H
ave your child name a few
sins, and every time
he or she names a sin, m
ove the “God” paper further aw
ay from the
“People” paper.
Can you think of som
ething that’s a sin? Now
, try to hop over to this piece of paper that says “G
od.” Can you think of another sin? Try to hop
on over to the “God” paper again. W
as it a little tougher this time? C
an you think of one m
ore sin? (Move the paper m
uch farther away so that
it’s impossible to jum
p to it.) Let’s try to hop again. What happened?
When w
e sin, we m
ove ourselves farther and farther away from
God.
When G
od created man, H
e created man to love H
im very m
uch…like
daddies and mom
mies and their children love each other. But, w
hen A
dam sinned by eating from
the tree that God told him
not to, it moved
him aw
ay from G
od. It created a big space between him
and God. A
s people on this earth, w
e create a big space between ourselves and G
od w
hen we sin. G
od knew this w
as going to happen! So, what do you think
He did so that w
e could be close to Him
again even when w
e sin?
God sent H
is son, Jesus, to the earth! Do you know
what Jesus did to help
us stay close to God? H
e died on the cross so that we could be forgiven
of our sins and never have a space between us and G
od again! But, God
didn’t just stop with Jesus’ death. O
n the third day after His death, Jesus
was raised from
the dead to show all of G
od’s glory. This is why w
e celebrate Easter! W
e know that Jesus is alive in H
eaven with G
od!
Read aloud John 16:33.
