Scripture - Ephesians 3:14-21 14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in
heaven and on earth derives its name, 16 that He would grant you, according to the
riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and
grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth
and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ which surpasses
knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God. 20 Now to Him who is
able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the
power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all
generations forever and ever. Amen.
Gospel - John 20:19-22 19 So when it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and when the doors
were shut where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their
midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 And when He had said this, He
showed them both His hands and His side. The disciples then rejoiced when they saw
the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you; as the Father has sent
Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to
them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
Sermon Text - Acts 2:1-21 1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. 2 And
suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the
whole house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire
distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled
with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving
them utterance. 5 Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every
nation under heaven. 6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and
were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own
language. 7 They were amazed and astonished, saying, “Why, are not all these who
are speaking Galileans? 8 And how is it that we each hear them in our own language
to which we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and residents of
Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia,
Egypt and the districts of Libya around Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and
proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs - we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the
mighty deeds of God.” 12 And they all continued in amazement and great perplexity,
saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others were mocking and saying,
“They are full of sweet wine.” 14 But Peter, taking his stand with the eleven, raised his
voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, let this

Pastor’s Ponderings . . . 1. What is the strongest wind you have ever experienced? What feelings did you
have as you felt the wind’s power?
2. How do you know that a river has current? How is that current like the Spirit?
3. Why do you think God revealed Himself in the person of the Holy Spirit? How is
this member of the Godhead uniquely essential to us in our journey of faith?
4. What is the relationship between the working of the Holy Spirit, the Word of
God, and the creation of faith in each person’s heart?
5. On Pentecost, some observers thought those filled with the Spirit were drunk.
Discuss the analogy between being drunk physically with too much alcohol,
and the filling of the Holy Spirit. How are they similar? How are they different?
6. How do we harness the wind? How do we tap into the Spirit’s power?
7. How is ‘breathing deep’ similar to receiving the Holy Spirit?
be known to you and give heed to my words. 15 For these men are not drunk, as you
suppose, for it is only the third hour of the day; 16 but this is what was spoken of through
the prophet Joel:17 ‘And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, “That I will pour forth of
My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your
young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; 18 Even on My
bondslaves, both men and women, I will in those days pour forth of My Spirit and they
shall prophesy. 19 And I will grant wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth
below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke. 20 The sun will be turned into darkness
and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come. 21 And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Forward in Faith!
The writer of Hebrews says, “Let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful, . . . not forsaking our own assembling together ... but encouraging one another all the more.” (Hebrews 10).
As we gathered together again at our church building last Sunday, we had 51 worshippers in attendance and 64 computers tuned in to our live-stream. All is going very smoothly, as we phase toward being more fully open, with each person’s health and safety as our continued highest priority. How wonderful to see one another’s faces after many weeks of separation. We love the friendship and fellowship of our Faith family!
Throughout this Corona Virus world pandemic, our Faith Council has met faithfully each week to wrestle with all aspects of this invisible challenge, and to decide on our best response. Though not always in total agreement, Faith’s Council has made significant decisions to guide our life together. Council has approved small groups (Journey Teams) to resume meeting at the church, confirming their meeting time with the church office, and cleaning up after themselves. Council has also approved special events like bridal showers, baby showers, and other events by approval, and contingent upon the church’s master calendar. Also, youth meetings are approved to gather at our church, meeting in designated areas.
On this Pentecost Sunday, we persevere with courage and confidence that the LORD is with us, and He will guide us toward a powerful life of ministry together in the name of Jesus Christ! In Pentecost, we celebrate God’s gift of the Holy Spirit poured out to give birth to the Christian church, to empower our faith and witness, to guide us in our journey, and to bind us together in the unity of His love.
Communion – Please pick up special communion packets with a self-contained wafer and plastic glass. When the pastor blesses the elements with the Words of Institution, all the worshipers will receive communion where they are seated.
In the meantime, we will continue to live-stream our worship each week at 9 a.m. as usual. Therefore, for those who are in the ‘at risk’ category, or who are not comfortable coming to a public gathering yet, we are grateful that we can still worship together via this live-stream technology.
Together in Christ’s love, Pastor Lee
