Safety Communication Quality Integrity TeamSpirit Caring Trust Pride
• Two injured colleagues
• Potential for more serious injuries, especially around
lifting operations. One of the incidents could have
resulted in a fatality.
• Root Cause is often found to be poor planning of the
task and not fully assessing the potential risks when
circumstances change.
• Need to move away from our ‘best endeavours’ culture
to one of only undertaking a task if it is safe to do so.

So what can you do to help?
• If in doubt, STOP and seek advice
• If circumstances change, re-assess the risk
• Always put Safety before cost – you will not be criticised for this.
• Always attend Safety briefings, they are there to improve your awareness & understanding
• Always follow method statements - don’t deviate. If there is a problem speak to your manager.
HS&E Conference
and Awards 2010
Safety Communication Quality Integrity TeamSpirit Caring Trust Pride
• Never ignore a health, safety or environmental issue
• Don’t walk away. If you do, you are condoning the
problem
• Continue to identify near misses – they are a major
factor in reducing risk at both local and company level
So what can you do to help?
HS&E Conference
and Awards 2010
Safety Communication Quality Integrity TeamSpirit Caring Trust Pride
• Volunteer to be a Safety Champion and help us with our Be-Safe behavioural safety approach
• Help new employees understand our HS&E culture
• Be proactive, look where you can make a positive contribution to improve HS&E
• Always ‘Think Safety and Act Safely’ - don’t take risks.
