•I am married to Buck Parnell and we reside in Abbeville, SC.

•We will be celebrating our 35th Wedding Anniversary in December.  

•We have two children; Tripp, a graduate of the University of South Carolina and Shannon, a graduate of Newberry College and Grand Canyon University with a Master’s in Accounting

Cell Phone Policy

•Cell phones can be out at anytime throughout the day. However, the only way a cell phone can be out in the classroom is if the teacher allows it.

•We will use the Green card/Red card system in the classrooms.

•Green card tells students that cell phones can be out, red card tells them that the cell phones must be put away.

Fire Drill / Tornado Drill Maps

• Fire Drill – You will exit at the back of the room, go left and then left again, right when you get to the library, all the way out to the bus parking lot. Stay together!!

• Tornado Drill – Assume a duck-and-cover position on an interior wall away from glass or machinery. Remain in this position until further instructions by the teacher/administrator.

In the situation of a Code Yellow, we want teachers to lock and close all doors and no one is allowed to be in the hallway without permission from administration or until an ALL CLEAR announcement has been made.

• Rules and procedures are displayed in all computer labs. Students receive a username and password. It is the student's responsibility to keep these accessible for his/her use.

• Internet Access All Internet users are expected to abide by Greenwood School District 50's Acceptable Use Policy for Using the Internet. An Internet Access Approval Form must be signed by the parent or guardian filed in the Media Center. Internet access is for educational purposes only. School administrators reserve the right to terminate access to any student or class abusing these privileges. The system administrator will deem what is inappropriate and that decision is final. Disciplinary measures are outlined in the Student's Rights and Responsibilities handbook.

• The following dress code applies to all schools in Greenwood School District 50. Inappropriate and impermissible student attire includes, but is not limited to, the following: See the Student's Rights and Responsibilities handbook for further information.

• 1. Clothing that depicts alcohol, drugs, tobacco, racial slurs/epithets, sexual suggestion/insinuation or inappropriate language is prohibited.

• 2. Halter-tops, tank tops, and see-through clothing are prohibited.

• 3. Shorts, mini skirts and culottes-type clothing are allowed in grades 5-12 with the following restrictions:

• a. Said garments may not be made of clinging material, such as but not limited to biker shorts and pants, surfer pants, form fitting knit material, etc.

• b. All garments should be of appropriate length, as determined by the school principal.

• 4. Hats/bandanas will not be worn in the buildings.

Dress CodeGreenwood High School has expanded and clarified this district policy

as follows:

• 1.  Chains and/or animal tails suspended from clothing are not allowed.

• 2.  All pants will be worn above the hips. Zip ties will be provided to all students wearing pants below the hips.

• 3.  Skirts and shorts should extend to the knees.

• 4.  No head coverings including hoods, caps, hats, and sunglasses will be worn on campus from 7:00 am through 4:30 pm.

• 5.  All shoes should have a hard bottom. Rubber soled flip flops or bedroom slippers are NOT allowed.

• 6.  Pajamas, leggings, jeggings, spaghetti strapped tops, one shoulder tops, and tank tops will NOT be worn on campus.

• 7.  Coveralls and overalls are not allowed to be worn on campus.

• 8.  Hair pick and combs are not allowed to be worn on campus. 

• 9.  Clothing or jewelry depicting weapons or illegal drugs are not allowed.

Honor Code

GHS honor code policy, consists of two parts: students tell the truth and students do not cheat. Violation of the honor code will result in severe disciplinary actions at the administrator's discretion.

ID BADGE PROCEDURES•All students and employees must wear a current-year ID badge during school. ID badges must be worn around the neck on the provided lanyard. If the ID badge is lost or forgotten an additional ID badge must be purchased for $5.00.

•GHS students are required to wear their GHS ID badges while attending classes at the G. Frank Russell Career Center, Emerald High School, Genesis and at Piedmont Technical College.

• If a teacher has a student reporting to class without an ID badge, the teacher is required to send the student to the Guidance Office to obtain a new ID badge. Students will not be allowed to enter a classroom without wearing an ID.

ID BADGE PROCEDURES•Students who deface an ID badge will be required to purchase a new ID badge. A defaced ID badge is any badge on which the picture, ID#, year, barcode or status has been changed, altered, or obstructed.

•Any student who wears another student's ID badge will be punished according to the Student's Rights and Responsibilities handbook. Students are to wear only one badge which must be for the current year.

•Students who fail to give correct identification will be punished according to the Student's Rights and Responsibilities handbook.

Tardy PolicyEach student will be issued a tardy card which must be worn at all times with the ID badge. The tardy card will have the numbers 1 – 6 at the bottom. Defacing a tardy card in any way will be considered the same as defacing an ID badge and will receive the same consequences. At the end of each semester, all students who have an intact tardy card will be invited to a No Tardy Party.

•Teachers will record all tardies in Powerschool.

•Each time a student is tardy to class, the teacher will punch one of the numbers and record the tardy in Powerschool. On the sixth tardy, the teacher will punch the number 6 and confiscate the tardy card. Any future tardies will result in a discipline referral.

Tardy Policy• If you come to class 10 minutes late you will be counted absent

unless you have a note from a teacher, administrator, nurse, guidance counselor, Mrs. Thomas, or attendance.

• You will also be written up for cutting class.

• Also, you have the privilege of using your phones between classes. Please do not let this privilege keep you from getting to class on time..

• Long story short!! Just get to class on time and do not be late!!!

Off-Limits Areas•Construction areas are restricted. Students found in these areas will be suspended.

•Permission must be obtained from an administrator to enter the parking area during school.

•Faculty lounges, the teacher mailroom and workrooms are NOT to be used by students. Students are NOT to use copiers in the workrooms or the Main Office.

•All athletic fields and other remote areas are off-limits to students at all times unless the students are under the direct supervision of a teacher or a staff member.

Parking Regulations

Parking passes are required of all students who drive a car on campus. To obtain a parking pass, students must present to the bookkeeper a valid driver's license, schedule, proper fee, and a completed permission form. The pass must hang from the rearview mirror. A student may not borrow another student's parking pass. All fees must be payed in full before a parking pass may be purchased.Failure to adhere to parking regulations will result in the vehicle being towed at owner's expense and/or loss of driving privileges.

Parking Regulations•Greenwood High School will not be held responsible for theft of contents, theft of vehicle, damage to any vehicle or contents while the vehicle is on campus.

•Students may not transport other students to and from campus during the day without an approved transportation permission form.

•Once a car is on campus, it may be searched at any time. Students are responsible for the contents in their cars.

GHS House Rules•Students should not be dropped off prior to 7:30 am.

•Upon arriving on campus, students are to immediately exit all cars and report to the main campus. Students arriving prior to 8:00 am should report to the cafeteria. Loitering in the parking lots is strictly prohibited before and after school. Students may not return to their cars without permission from an administrator unless he/she has been properly dismissed from school.

•Students arriving on campus before 8:00 am must report to the cafeteria unless they have written permission from a teacher.

•Students are not allowed in the E, F, H buildings or gym, prior to 8:00 am.

GHS House Rules•Before 8:25 am, the bottom floor of F building is designated for ninth graders only. Loitering outside of the classroom will not be tolerated.

•At dismissal, students are to leave campus immediately unless they are waiting for a ride or waiting on bus transportation. Students waiting on car transportation need to wait in front of the school on the north side of campus. Students waiting on bus transportation need to wait in the black top area.

•Students are not allowed to take pictures while on campus unless prior approval is given from administration.

•Students are provided a locker and lock. Lockers may be checked at any time.

GHS House Rules

•Students may only have food and drinks in designated areas such as the cafeteria, fish bowl patio and black top area during lunch. Food is not allowed in any other location during the school day.

•The above rules means, do not bring your breakfast, lunch, snacks, or drinks to class.

•Students are not to take bookbags, pens, pencils, books, or pocketbooks into the restroom. These items must remain in the classroom.

GHS House Rules

•Students are NOT allowed to leave campus for lunch

•Students are not allowed to have lunch delivered to them.

•Hitting, touching, kissing, pulling, tugging, touching in a sexual nature or any other physical contact with another student will be considered inappropriate behavior and result in a disciplinary referral.

•Fighting will not be tolerated at GHS. If a student fights at GHS, he/she will be referred to law enforcement.

GHS House Rules•GHS observes the 20-20 rule which means students are not allowed to leave the classroom during the first 20 minutes nor the last 20 minutes of class.

•Greenwood High School cannot accept deliveries for students during the school day. This includes flowers, balloons, packages, food, etc.

•GHS does not allow flags to be flown on any vehicle while on the GHS campus.

Procedural Reminders• You must be in the classroom when the bell rings or it will be

considered a tardy.

• Enforce the 20-20 rule during each class. This means that you can not leave the room for any reason for the first 20 minutes of class or the last 20 minutes of class.

• If you need to go to the restroom before class starts, just tell me and you can go and will not be counted tardy.

• Students should not be at door prior to bell ringing at the end of class.

• Sign Out and Sign In before leaving room for any reason!
