Goals during your intern year

• Transition from student to medical practitioner

• Independent, competent and safe doctor

• Increasing responsibility for patient care

What we do

• Provide a diverse teaching and learning experience for over 300 junior medical staff

• Comprehensive orientation program

• Weekly intern education program

• Co-ordinate rotation assessments and feedback

• Optional after-hours training and workshops

• Supported by an excellent Simulation Centre and Library

• 4-day comprehensive program

• Clinical skills practice including credentialling for IV cannulation

• Advanced clinical assessment skills for deteriorating patients

What is the Process?

• Careers Expo – Saturday 28th April – Austin Health will be giving

a 15 minute presentation; no booth

• Apply online via PMCV and Health Services directly

• Applications for Austin open – 1st May and close 1st June 2018

• Applications need to be submitted by candidates along with CV,

cover letter and photo (see guidelines on the web)

• Referee reports submitted to PMCV

What happens from there:

• We short list approx. 280 interview candidates down from the

total number of applications received (approx. 850 for 2018)

o Short listing process undertaken (4th - 6th June)

o Email invitations for interview (7th June)

o Selection of interview time by candidates - all interviews conducted after

hours

o Interviews take place: 12th – 20th June 2018

o Phone interviews also available; time TBC: contact DiT Coordinator Emma

Saggese to organise

o Austin Health has an Aboriginal Employment Plan. All ATSI (Aboriginal and

Torres Strait Islander) identified applicants will be guaranteed an interview.

• Academic marks provide a good indication of academic

ability

• We wanted a process that considers this heavily but also

considers other attributes of good doctors:
