Your Staff Parish met this past week and want to give an update on the pro- gress made in filling recent vacancies on the church staff. When Joan Schell announced her decision to step away from the position of Director of New Generations Ministry, we were surprised, to say the least. But as soon as the information was shared, Staff Parish was called together to come up with a plan to fill the vacancy. We will always be grateful to Joan for the many years of service she gave to her church, and also know that we will never find another servant like her, gifted in exactly the same ways. She was one of a kind, in all the best possible ways. This meant that we needed to figure out what new directions we might go to build on the solid foundation with our youth and children. Staff Parish met and named a task force to move to the next levels. Erin Adams, Andy Ambrose and Joe Smith were charged to work with Lay Leader Heather Bleeke and Pastor Derek to shape the new job description. The Task force began by looking at current job descriptions, interviewing other staff and volunteers working with the children and youth, met weekly for over a month and came together to build a new vision for the ministry. At this point we are ready to advertise for a new Director and will be send- ing out notices through various media and information sources to recruit the best possible candidates for the position. We have several candidates in mind, some already familiar with the program and so we are hoping for a speedy resolution to the long term need. We will also be partnering with local universities with whom we have some inroads, to see if some of our needs can be met with interns in various ministry training degree programs. While we can not and do not intend to skimp on this most vital ministry area - which is key to church growth and revitalization - we plan to come in un- der the current budget already allotted in this area. In the short term, we decided to find someone familiar with the ministry and interested in exploring ministry who could help us maintain the momen- tum over the summer. We are pleased that Maddie Weber accepted the position for the summer months while we engage in the search for the full time person. She will work alongside current staff and volunteers in both the children and youth departments and will help create and modify sum- mer plans for both. As always anyone is welcome to ask for updates and for further information about the workings and plans of the Staff Parish Committee and any com- mittee of the church. And anyone wanting to volunteer to work with our children and youth to keep even more informed, that would be welcome too. Sincerely, Aldersgate Staff Parish Committee, Greg Childs, Chair. Committee Members: Erin Adams, Jenny Almdale, Andy Ambrose, Greg Myers, Judy Miller, Norm Roelke, Bob Schantz, Joe Smith. Lay Leader—Ex Officio—Heather Bleeke.
