We sing our opening hymn:
Holy, holy, holy
LHS 140 CAL293
Reginald Heber (1783-1826)
Holy, holy, holy
1. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy
2. Holy, holy, holy, all the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea,
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Which wert and art and evermore shalt be.
Holy, holy, holy
3. Holy, holy, holy, though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see,
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.
Holy, holy, holy
4. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty,
God in three Persons, blessed Trinity! †

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
M: Friends in Christ: we have gained access to the grace in which we stand through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Since we have peace with God through him, let us draw near to God our Father with a true heart to confess our sins, and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.

C: We confess that we are born in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves.
We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have failed to do.
18
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
C: We have not loved you with our whole heart, and we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves. We deserve your eternal punishment.
For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.

and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

FIRST READING
R: The first reading for Trinity Sunday is written in Chapter eight of Proverbs beginning at verse one.
Proverbs 8:1-4,22-31 CEV
Wisdom's role in creation
28
Proverbs 8:1-4,22-31
R: With great understanding, Wisdom is calling out 2 as she stands at the crossroads and on every hill. 3She stands by the city gate where everyone enters the city, and she shouts:
4"I am calling out to each one of you!
29
Proverbs 8:1-4,22-3122From the beginning, I was with the
LORD. I was there before he began 23to create the earth.
At the very first, the LORD gave life to me.
24When I was born, there were no oceans or springs of water.
30
Proverbs 8:1-4,22-3125My birth was before mountains were
formed or hills were put in place. 26It happened long before God had made the earth or any of its fields or even the dust.
27I was there when the LORD put the heavens in place and stretched the sky over the surface of the sea.
31
Proverbs 8:1-4,22-3128I was with him when he placed the
clouds in the sky and created the springs that fill the ocean. 29I was there when he set boundaries for the sea to make it obey him, and when he laid foundations to support the earth.
32
Proverbs 8:1-4,22-31• 30I was right beside the LORD,
helping him plan and build. I made him happy each day, and I was
happy at his side. 31 I was pleased with his world and
pleased with its people. This is the Word of the Lord.C: Thanks be to God.
33
Psalm 8 CEV
R: The Psalm is Psalm 8. R: 1Our LORD and Ruler, your name is
wonderful everywhere on earth! You let your glory be seen in the
heavens above. C: 2With praises from children and
from tiny infants, you have built a fortress.
It makes your enemies silent, and all who turn against you are left speechless.
34
Psalm 8 CEV
R: 3I often think of the heavens your hands have made,
and of the moon and stars you put in place.
C: 4Then I ask, "Why do you care about us humans?
Why are you concerned for us weaklings?
35
Psalm 8 CEV
R: 5You made us a little lower than you yourself,
and you have crowned us with glory and honour.
C: 6You let us rule everything your hands have made.
And you put all of it under our power.
36
Psalm 8 CEV
R: 7The sheep and the cattle, and every wild animal,
C: 8The birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and all ocean creatures.
R: 9Our LORD and Ruler, your name is wonderful everywhere on earth!
C: Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit;
As it was in the beginning is now and will be for ever. Amen.
37
Second reading
R: The second reading for today is written in Chapter five of Romans beginning at verse one.
Romans 5:1-5 CEV
The Christian experience of the Trinity
38
Romans 5:1-5
R: By faith we have been made acceptable to God.
And now, because of our Lord Jesus Christ, we live at peace with God.
2Christ has also introduced us to God's undeserved kindness on which we take our stand.
So we are happy, as we look forward to sharing in the glory of God.
39
Romans 5:1-5 3But that's not all! We gladly suffer, because we know
that suffering helps us to endure. 4And endurance builds character, which gives us a hope 5that will never disappoint us.
40
Romans 5:1-5
All of this happens because God has given us the Holy Spirit, who fills our hearts with his love.
This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.
41
C: Alleluia.Jesus said: 'The Spirit will glorify
me, because he will take what is mine
and declare it to you.' (John 16:14 NRSV)
Alleluia.
42
gospel
M: The Holy Gospel is written in Chapter 16 of the Gospel according to St John, beginning at Verse 12
C: Glory to you, O Lord
John 16:12-15 CEV
The Spirit from God will bear witness to Jesus
43
John 16:12-15
M: 12I have much more to say to you, but right now it would be more than you could understand. 13The Spirit shows what is true and will come and guide you into the full truth. The Spirit doesn't speak on his own. He will tell you only what he has heard from me, and he will let you know what is going to happen.
44
John 16:12-1514The Spirit will bring glory to me by
taking my message and telling it to you. 15Everything that the Father has is mine. That is why I have said that the Spirit takes my message and tells it to you.
This is the Gospel of the Lord.
C: Praise to you, O Christ.
45
M: Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for the Holy Spirit, who reveals the truth about God.
May we give glory to you and the Father and the Spirit.
C: Amen.
APOSTLE’S CREED
C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
APOSTLE’S CREED
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead.
APOSTLE’S CREED
He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty, from thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.
APOSTLE’S CREED
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
*or: Christian; ‘catholic’ here means ‘universal’

Glory be to God the Son,
Glory be to God the Spirit,
God Almighty, Three in One!
Glory, glory, glory, glory,
While eternal ages run!

Glory be to God the Father
2. Glory be to Him who loved us,
Washed us from each spot and stain!
Glory be to Him who bought us,
Made us kings with Him to reign!
Glory, glory, glory, glory,
To the Lamb that once was slain!
82
Glory be to God the Father
3. Glory to the king of angels,
Glory to the Church’s king,
Glory to the king of nations!
Heaven and earth, your praises bring;
Glory, glory, glory, glory,
To the King of glory bring!
83
Glory be to God the Father
4. Glory, blessing, praise eternal!
Thus the choir of angels sings;
Honor, riches, power, dominion!
Thus its praise creation brings;
