Paulding Elementary- Stephanie TearGreetings! We here at Paulding Elementarywish you and your family a blessed holidayseason. We do have so many blessings inour lives. Our children are our biggest and

best blessing! Many at Paulding Elementary

often comment on how your children touchtheir hearts. I have heard that a smile orfrown can heal or pierce a heart, so I loveseeing all the healing smiles from staff andchildren within our building. If you have not had the opportunity to letyour child’s teacher know they are appreciat-ed, I encourage you to do so. As I work eachday side-by-side with the teachers at Pauld-ing Elementary, I realize how fortunate yourchildren are. Many of these teachers are sotalented and amazing at what they do! Weare blessed with many strengths within ourstaff. We have teachers who have sympa-thetic hearts as they develop young learners.I hope you will take time to let them knowyou appreciate their dedication. The students in grades K-3 have been busycompleting State required diagnostic assess-

ments on reading, writing and math. Wehave been using these results, along withother assessments, to diagnose student needsfor intervention. It has always been our goalhere at Paulding Elementary to meet studentswhere they are and take them where theyneed to be. So, these Diagnostics are justanother tool to help teachers help students.Attendance matters at Paulding Elementaryand we are making it a priority for our stu-dents to understand how important every sin-gle day is! The importance for great attend-ance starts as early as Preschool and setting a

positive routine will make a difference inyour child’s life. We have made it a goal that95% of our students are in attendance with-out being tardy. We will also be doingannouncements reminding students of our

building goal. The grade level with the best

percentage will earn ‘Smarties’! Teachersmay be implementing ownership for students

to monitor their own attendance hoping toincrease student motivation. The annual Paulding Elementary Christmasmusical will be December 3 in the HighSchool Auditeria beginning promptly at 7:30

p.m.. Our Fourth graders are being featuredthis year in a wonderful musical! We hopeyou are able to attend and enjoy the beauty ofour children during this special season. Thisis always such a wonderful community event

and you are especially welcome.Paulding Elementary wishes each and everyfamily a safe and blessed holiday season. My hope is that you enjoy one another andembrace time together.

Oakwood Elementary-Jennifer ManzAutumn Greetings from Oakwood Elemen-tary!! I want to start my article by thankingall who attended our Veteran’s Day programon Wednesday, November 11th. It was won-derful to see the number of Veterans, theirfamily members, and our students’ familymembers who joined us for an amazing pro-gram! We appreciate our Veteran’s years ofservice and sacrifice. The month of November has been a very

busy one at Oakwood Elementary! We had awonderful turnout at our parent/teacher con-ferences earlier this month – very close to

100%. Our students are much more success-ful when teachers, parents, and students areall on the same page, and this can only hap-

pen when the lines of communication arekept open. We encourage our parents to re-member sharing questions, concerns, andsuccesses with your child’s teacher are notlimited to twice a year at fifteen minute ap-

pointments. Any time questions or concernsarise regarding your child’s education, pleasecontact us.On December 8

Our second graders and kindergartners wouldlike to thank the members of the John Pauld-ing Historical Society for inviting them totour ‘The Festival of the Trees’ on November10th. The second graders enjoyed decoratingtheir Christmas tree with ornaments createdin Mrs. Frankart’s art class. The students at

be part of ‘The Festival of Trees’ each year! The 6th  Graders at Oakwood Elementarywent to the polls on November 3rd  to electthis year’s Student Council Members. As we approach the upcoming holiday season,

I’d like to pause for a moment and thank the

Wayne Trace faculty & sta and the families inour community for making student-learning the

highest priority in our district. We must all

remember that what takes place during the regu-

lar school day is the most important part of the

school experience. We will connue to have highacademic expectaons for all students, andfamily support is crical for these expectaons tobe met.

Many thanks also go out to our community for

renewing the ve-year tax levy. This money, which is used for both regular school operaonsand permanent improvement projects, allows ourdistrict to maintain current programming and

operaons. On behalf of the WT Board of Educa-on and Cizens for WT Tax Levy, we appreciateyour connued support of our great school dis-trict.

Speaking further of support, thank you to all

family members who aended the recent parent/teacher conferences held at all three school

buildings. Remember, you may set up a confer-

ence with your child(ren)’s teachers at any me,not just during parent/teacher conferences. AsI’ve stated many mes, educang a child is a joint

endeavor between the school and home.

In academic news, our teachers and sta con-nue to introduce the state content standards toour students as the Ohio Department of Educa-on (ODE) connues to make changes at thestate level. A tremendous amount of work hasgone into adapng to the state-mandated tesngsystem over the past few years with anotherround of changes coming again this year. Much

to the delight of many educators and parents

around the state of Ohio, the PARCC system oftests has been axed from Ohio’s tesng marketand will be replaced in full by tests provided bythe American Instutes of Research (AIR) in allfour content areas – English/language arts, math, science, and social studies. We also ancipate adecrease in the amount of me spent tesng ourstudents, meaning more me can now bedevoted to introducing content and providinginstrucon to students. Everyone’s connued

cooperaon is appreciated during this transfor-maon period as the ODE, state legislators, andlocal boards of educaon connue to nd themost ecient and accountable means for meas-uring our students’ understanding of the state

    content standards.

In further academic news, the ODE is planningto release district and building-level report cardinformaon in the next month or so. Preliminaryresults on the 2014-2015 PARCC and AIR testsreect that Wayne Trace has met or exceededthe minimum expectaon on all state-mandatestests. We anxiously await the ocial results onthese tests, as well as our scores on other meas-

ured areas, including performance index, gradua-

on rate, gap closing, and value-added measures. As we wait for these results, I would again like to

assure our parents and community members that

teaching and learning are taking place every dayin all three WT school buildings.

Turning to school transportaon, we haveentered the me of year where our hazardousweather situaons have turned from fog to snowand ice. When it comes to making decisions

about whether to delay or cancel school, the

good news is that snow and ice seem to be a lilemore consistent and predictable than what fog is.

Although bad winter weather may set in aerbuses are out, this is less-likely to happen than

with fog. With that said, please demand that

your student-drivers slow down and use cauonduring the winter season. Likewise, we will con-nue to use common sense when calling schooldelays and cancellaons with the safety of ourstudents of utmost importance.

In school calendar news, please be reminded

that school will be delayed two hours on Decem-ber 11 for a teacher in-service program. Buseswill run two hours late that day. Also, in new

calendar news, please make note that school willbe dismissed one hour early on Friday, December18.

email the teachers to introduce yourself so that

we can team together to provide the best possi-ble educaon for our Wayne Trace students.

With December comes the end of our rstsemester. We will be administering semester

The exams are a signicant partof our junior high students second nine weeksgrade.

The past several weeks I was able to pass outlimited informaon to our students concerningthe results of last year’s state tesng. The stu-dents know how they scored but with lile extrainformaon. The state has promised individualreports that should come in the near future. I will

distribute these reports to students as it becomes

available. Please check with your son or daughterfor these results.

leading our students in this endeavor!

Also, I would like to extend my appreciaon tothe social studies department, specically Mrs.Gudakunst, for planning a very meaningful Veter-an’s Day program. oen take for granted. Thank-you veterans forwhat you do to protect our freedom!

Recently, our local chapter of the NaonalHonor Society inducted seven new juniors intoNHS. The tapping ceremony was held on Novem-ber 24 with our high school student body in
